I have seen a perfect Isla one but we just can't afford it Sad and I can`t link because I am on my phone

I want one that isn`t pink and sparkly please!

Are you looking for something girly but not in pink, or something less gender specific?

reddaisy · 04/09/2012 21:04

It is for my dd but although she loves pink and purple I would prefer a unisex one such as red that dd would still like but I could hand down to ds. I ideally want a good quality one without paying Isla prices!

Halfords but it's a 16'' - is that too big for her? Not sure your ds would like the High School Musicl theme though. Grin

My 4yo dd's favourite colour is blue, and her first bike was blue - would you consider blue, green, or yellow as a unisex colour? I think everything is unisex as long as you stay away from pink/purple Smile

MarianForrester · 04/09/2012 21:19

Sports Direct usually has a good selection- got two bikes from them much cheaper than anywhere else.

reddaisy · 04/09/2012 21:20

I got her a blue mini micro scooter and she wanted to know why I got her a boys one Hmm. I don`t want branded one like the HSM one but I open to green or yellow but I would prefer red! I don't know why it isn't easier to buy primary coloured things.

What are you getting your dd for Christmas?

What about something like that? Could always leave the placard thingy off the front to stop it looking too boyish.

Or that if they both like Toy Story.

reddaisy · 04/09/2012 21:40

Thanks so much for your help Desperately but ideally I want a simple red bike that I can put some accessories on. I love the Isla one just not the pricetag!

I got a red bike for my DS for his 4th birthday from Argos last month, it was £60 half price. It's a silverfox one and has a fox sticker on the front and isn't overly boyish.

Kveta · 04/09/2012 21:53

Ebay for an isla bike?

DorisIsWaiting · 04/09/2012 21:57

Puky from ebay - got dd2 a red one for her birthday. She's a very pink kind of girl but we told her 'everyone knows the red ones go faster' (she has sisters to race...).

reddaisy · 04/09/2012 21:59

Kveta - they sell for more than £100 on ebay including courier so I just think it would make more sense to buy one new if it is that much second hand. The good news is that I could probably use one for both DC and still sell it afterwards. But it is so much to spend in one go!

OP posts:
reddaisy · 04/09/2012 22:00

Doris - excellent idea about telling DD that! I will look at Puky bikes now!

DesperatelySeekingPomBears · 04/09/2012 22:17

I hate to say it but if you've set your heart on the Isla one, nothing is going to compare.

Besides, very plain and basic red bikes only seem to be made by equally expensive companies. On the plus side, if it's to last 2 DC's think of it as half the price as you won't have to fork out for one for DS.

I really do think you're going to have to bite the bullet. Cheap bike companies only make boyish boys bikes or girlish girls bikes and to be honest, a cheap bike probably wouldn't last your DS as well anyway.

reddaisy · 04/09/2012 22:38

True Desperately but I would need to convince DH. I could justify it as we spend very little on toys for her the rest of the year. Or we could ask grandparents to chip in but they would probably scoff at the price. Are the Puky ones as good as the Isla ones? There is a lovely red and yellow puky one online.

Maybe you could ask for it to be out together without the stickers?

everydayaschoolday · 05/09/2012 01:12

reddaisy we're thinking of the Innotab 2. Occasionally, she is kindly allowed to borrow dsd ipod touch; she loves the whole touch-screen idea. And she plays with a talking cat app on my iphone Hmm.

just googled isla bike. It looks really nice; my suggestions pale in comparison. DH needs reminding you get what you pay for, and it seems a good spec, robust (throw in any other techie terms that might grasp his interest here Smile and it's cost efficient when you're all but guaranteed it'll last for 2DC - unlike many others on the market.

DesperatelySeekingPomBears · 05/09/2012 08:00

FWIW, if I were going to spend £150+ on a bike (which I probably will when DS is old enough), I'd go for the Puky one, they're gorgeous.

Blowninonabreeze · 05/09/2012 08:09

decathalon, although it may well be considered a boys bike?

Fwiw we have islabikes for our dds and I'd not hesitate to recommend them. Also worth looking at specialized, ridgeback and Dawes for similar standard plain non sparkly bikes.

reddaisy · 05/09/2012 10:02

Thanks everyone. I think I like the Puky one best too but not the name! I will have to see whether we can stretch to it or not but long term it seems to make the most financial sense.

jenbird · 08/09/2012 20:58

red daisy Go for the Isla one. All my kids have them and any other bikes we have had for them just do not compare. They are pricey but you can always sell it on on eBay where they go for near enough their original price.

SummerLightning · 08/09/2012 21:05

Watch out as I think Isla bikes are putting up their prices even more for the next years bikes! (I love them though)
Try specialized ridgeback giant and trek too maybe?

reddaisy · 08/09/2012 21:18

We have a Giant shop fairly nearby so I might pop in and have a look. But if I want an Isla one I have to decide soon as they recommend orders are placed before the end of the month. Do you think they will let us pay by installments?!

OP posts:
bacon · 09/09/2012 11:18

I'd rather buy a quality 2nd hand bike than a £60 new. We have bought Dawes in the past from the professional bike shop and they are fantastic bikes. Specialized, Dawes, Cube etc are good bikes and recommend e-bay/gumtree/adverts.
