We are looking to get one for DD who will be 6 for christmas (and also so i can use it too!) but have no idea what to start looking for, anyone know how much they cost? games and stuff for a 6 yo girl?

I'm abit useless at this kind of thing but would like to sort it out soon so it's done and dusted.

Any tips on what to look for? where? (pref somewhere that does oveseas delivery) I feel so oooooold just writing this not having a clue!

i can't understand how any 7yo can have outgrown a DS Confused

I think it's worth getting a 3d one, as the new 3d games don't work on non 3d consoles. The non 3d games, however, work on both types of console.

Does that make sense? Grin

Most DS games are overpriced rubbish.

And very repetitive imagine teacher, nanny,
Etc. are all the same.

Saun the sheep took a couple of hours. The cooking ones are daft.

Scribble naughts is clever, even if I can't do it.

The only ones the DDs return to are Supermario and supper Marriott karts.

Best Wii games by far too!

Although at least with the Wii Sports and Resort are fun too. Watching DH turn into a flying chickenGrin

primrise perfect sense in a rather garbled way Grin

And games don't have to be expensive tbh second hand games are cheap as chips and it makes no difference to game play!

As for an iPod touch its a viable alternative but I think it's a lot more likely to get broken. My kids ds's have hit the deck many times and lived to tell the tale. We have converted my old iPhone 3G into an iPod touch when I upgraded and the kids are allowed use of it occasionally do they don't keep hijacking mine and dh's phones but not in the way they have free access to their ds iykwim

I ahem, my children love the Mario games too. If we're not sure about a game, we often rent them on lovefilm first, and then buy it if it's good enough.

Zelda and professor Layton games are good too, although maybe too old for your DD.

I don't think you can grow out of a DS, my girls, 11 and 15 still enjoy theirs, and so do I and I'm 41!

Mario games also huge hits, here.
Professor Layton okay, but just a bit too difficult for my kids (age 12 to 8).

In the house we have 2 x DSi & a DS, three DC can all play Mario games together off of one cart. Don't really want to spring for 3x iPods!
