I agree with you Seeker, that's partly why I've no ideas for older DC. Just have a few ideas in mind, and micromachines for a 4yo are a pretty sure bet. Especially when the 4yo is a DC4 & we already have everything else going.

DS1 (18) and his GF are getting married so have said they will probably be asking for v. boring practical stuff so will either give them money or buy something practical for them. Will probably get them both something treaty as well but not as big as we would have done.

DS2 (15) will want us to renew his health club membership so that will be his main present and probably clothes/shoes/DVDs as little bits.

DS3 and 4 (11) iPod touches probably as their hand me down ones from DS1/2 are on their last legs. Probably some Xbox games as well as I don't let them play any of Ds1/2s violent ones.

DS5 (will be 6 by then) am getting him a football shirt for his birthday so will probably get him a rugby shirt for Christmas. We have so many hand me down toys that he loves it is hard to justify even more. He loves helping DH with the livestock so we are considering buying an animal for him to look after. DH wants to get him a cow but I'm not so sure.

DS6 (almost 4) really loves train sets so will probably get some more stuff to add to his existing one. Also DS5 has buggered the bike I was going to hand down so he needs a new bike as his is getting too small.

DS7 (will be a few days short of 1) loves bath time so will probably get him some bath toys to play with. He really loves balloons as well so think I'm going to blow up lots and lots of balloons for him to play with.

I'd like to spoil them with ipod Touches, but the dds will only be 7 & 8. Is that too young for them? An option would be to buy dd2 a Touch and give dd1 my iphone 4 while i buy myself an iphone 5.

We don't buy them anything much unless for Xmas and birthdays and this seems a nice alternative to a mountain of plastic crap...

TheBolter · 25/08/2012 19:34

I am only considering it though. TBF I don't think dd1 is anywhere near old enough for a phone so she prob won't use it for calls...

I'm planning on them sharing an X box and having a cheapo mobile phone each as they are hitting secondary school and will need one.

I was just thinking of Christmas presents for DS1, and he turns 4 a month before so I have to think of something for that too.

I was looking at Super Hero Squad stuff and also the Avengers actions figures as he's really into all that sort of stuff.

DS2 will be a just over a month shy of turning 2, but it's more difficult to buy him things as he just plays with the stuff that DS1 doesn't play with anymore - maybe some Happyland stuff like the dinosaurs...I'm sure something will come up!

Milliways You could always give her some spending money before she goes :)

My DH is being made redundant in October with a huge payout so this Christmas will be a special one as we have always scrimped and saved every year - we have seen a kids double Mini car which DS loves and we would never be able to afford usually (£300) - plus a pirate ship and just a magical day - real tree, grotto trip etc

dd1 (4yo) loves octonauts. so have purchased good value duvet set, towel, fleece blanket from Amazon. An not such brill value Hmm plastic octonaut character figurines also from amazon. She hasn't asked for it but we're thinking of getting her the Innotab/Innotab 2 as her main present, as she likes to hold carefully play with (very patient and understanding) dsd's ipod touch.

dd2 (18 mths) is getting a couple of kiddie play items on half price in ELC/mothercare at the mo! She's got the Little Tykes Coupe car reduced from £49 to £35 last month in mothercare's ELC section as her main present.

DH sorts dsd's (teenagers) main present or money whatever they choose from all of us. I do their 'santa' presents - Pjs, stationary, makeup, nice toiletry sets, slipper socks, selection boxes, a piece of silver jewellery, i-tunes gift card etc.

The bolter - go for the touches, we got dd a nano earlier this yr and I am thinking of selling it and getting a touch (she is 7). The nanos are crap.

Well thank you again DoubleMum, just picked up playbook today. Grin Had a wee shot of it to make sure it was working and it's ace! Also got the 3 years insurance for a tenner as kept in mind what you said.

Really chuffed with it and while it isn't quite as pretty as an iPad it's just as nice to use. Can't wait to give it to my DS3 for Christmas!

That's great OvO. I can't help feeling there's some great Blackberry conspiracy though and one day soon we might all wake up with triffids in our gardens. They're too cheap! I haven't had a play with these yet as the kids have always been with me, but on tuesday they're at holiday club and I'll be having a play and downloading some fun stuff for them. I believe there's a Norton app you can download too to stop them picking up and nastiness.

DoubleMum · 26/08/2012 20:34

or even any nastiness. Sigh.

Ive just bought DDs HTC Flyer tablets from my local fb selling pages.

DS wants an I-pad but they're so expensive and I'm wondering if there is much difference between that and the Playbook - that price is amazing :)

If anyone can point me in the right direction, I would be really grateful.

I can't beleive I am posting on a Christmas thread in August but DH has just got DS a second-hand road bike this evening, which we have hidden in the shed. DS is desperate for a road bike and it was a total bargain!

sb6699 why don't you take DS to currys and get him to have a look at the Playbook? I know that would kind of ruin the surprise but if he has his heart set on an iPad it might be a disappointment? I don't think anyone on the hUKD thread is saying the Playbook is better than the iPad, but then for 64 GB you'd be paying more than £500 for an iPad so it ought to be better! The playbook seems to be strong as a media player but weaker on apps - the apps side may change when the new OS is brought in, but it may not. For my uses I'm not too bothered about apps as long as there is some choice, so it seems good for my needs. (or rather my kids' needs.) Also the PB doesn't support Skype or Love film or Netflix, but unlike the iPad it can run Flash.

Thanks for posting about the Blackberry playbook, I've just ordered one to put away for dp's christmas. He kept looking at the new ipad but he thought it was too expensive so hopefully he likes this :)

I've also bought my youngest (who will be 15 months by christmas) a happyland village set when it was half price in ELC. Can't believe I'm so organised this year!
