we saw the wizard of Oz last Christmas..
what should we see this year??
Needs to be quite central, we combine it with Oxford street lights and Winter Wonderland at hyde park

Have you seen The Snowman?

I took my PFB when he was 5yo (he's now 12.6yo) Grin

I can't recall exactly (but if you Google it) IIRC it was Peacock Theatre or Sadlers Wells.

Tickets are ££ but we went when it was celebrating 20 years or something.

It's not a long play and it was lovely. No surprises though we watch The Snowman on C4 every year .More for my benefit but it's a Christmas Tradition on Christmas Eve.

If you are going to be at Hyde Park WW, why not book in for one of their plays or Zippos Circus?
I wouldn't fancy too much travelling about in London. And if you want to see the Lights you'll be there quite late.

Our 'Perect Day' (mine are 12.6 and 10) would be :

Breakfast (big breakfast at home)
The London Duck (the yellow tank/amphibious ) that drives you round the sights then you go along the Thames. No toilets so need to make sure your DC bladders can last <img loading="lazy" class="inline-flex mumsnet-emoji" alt="Grin" src="https://www.mumsnet.com/build/assets/grin-D7Eg_B6y.png">
Winter Wonderland (lots of snacky stalls there to keep you going)

Lunch at Garfunkles
Walk along Regent Street to Hamleys (we count the Hamleys Bags being carried )

Then on the way out, see the lights.
Then hot chocolate and home.

then a matinee performance
then trip to see FC
dinner then winter wonderland

Not sure how central it is, but Stomp is great for kids.

Mintyy · 30/07/2012 18:41

Matilda. No ifs, no buts. It is a work of sheer genius.

NarcolepsyQueen · 30/07/2012 18:42

Roald Dahl's Matilda is on at the moment, and Stomp is excellent for children (even my 14 month old was mesmerised!)

NarcolepsyQueen · 30/07/2012 18:42

X posts - but great minds!

Catsmamma · 30/07/2012 18:45

I'd go ice skating! Loads of outdoor arenas to choose from...my lot liked the Canary Wharf one best.

NeverKnowinglyAbleToFlickFlack · 30/07/2012 18:46

Matilda!!! I forgot about that...
will have a look thanks

Matilda at Covent Garden (I think it's the Cambridge Theatre). It's amazing, you would need to book now for Dec as its v popular/always sells out Smile

NarcolepsyQueen · 30/07/2012 19:07

I like Somerset House for ice skating - they have decorations by Tiffany's!

Gorran · 30/07/2012 19:11

Matilda - that's going to be our Christmas show this year x

milk · 30/07/2012 20:40

Shrek the Musical Grin

DilysPrice · 30/07/2012 20:48

Matilda is by all accounts fabulous, but if anyone is reading this and can't stretch to the cost, then if Potted Panto is on it's a cracking little show - we've been twice and repeat all the jokes to each other regularly.

RevoltingChildren · 30/07/2012 20:52

For me it would be Matilda as you can tell by my username but boys of that age would probably enjoy Shrek too

Lion king is also great

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 30/07/2012 22:49

Or why not look at the IMAX and see if they've got a Christmas Film showing.
They showed Polar Express on the big screen 3D one year which would be brilliant for DC.

And A Christmas Carol which is not so brilliant for young DC Grin

Elainey1609 · 06/08/2012 21:52

Matilda or shrek is great loved both of them

noteventhebestdrummer · 06/08/2012 21:54

Shrek is great, good for kids and adults!

Sylvie1980 · 06/08/2012 21:54

I've only heard good things about Matilda, for boys and girls.

curiousgeorgie · 20/08/2012 08:35

Matilda, hands down. I've had a lucky year show wise and been to about 10, (DH's milestone birthday, got loads of tickets!!) and Matilda is by far the best and absolutely brilliant for kids.
