I love Christmas, and although I like to get started early, even I don't normally think about it until August. But, Christmas threads keep popping in to make me think about it, so go on, share your stocking filler ideas for a 4 1/2 year old boy and I might be tempted to pick up a few bits and pieces...

Sticker book
Card game
Ball

Lots of ideas here www.stocking-fillers.co.uk

TheScottishPlayer · 23/06/2012 15:55

Thanks, I'll have a look.

Any other suggestions of stocking fillers that have been big hits welcome!

I do Christmas Stockings for my DC but probably just the last 4-5 years (my DC are 12 and 10 now).

Mainly to give DH and I half an hours peace while they open the heavily wrapped and sellotaped presents as quietly as possible - they think we don't know what they are up to.

My stocking gift criteria is :
they have to be useful or pretty gifts- no plastic tat that goes right in the bin
no more expensive than £3 -any more expensive would go in normal gifts pile

I start buying in October, picking things up when I see them.

Hawkins Bazaar used to be a good source of little gifts.
The Range has those little dinosaurs or Robots in 'eggs' to assemble
Little torch keyrings
Jigsaws (£1)
Little craft kits

The Works:
pencils, pallette of paints and brushes
bookmarks
tracing paper pads
books

Poundshops:
dinosaur cards/ Top Trumps

And sweets, chocolate coins, selection box (It is Christmas after all. Or it will be)

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 23/06/2012 19:00

Is stocking fillers .co,.uk Hawkins Bazaar under a new name?
The products are very similar (and HB used to be mail order before they opened their shops)

OvO · 23/06/2012 19:02

Comic.

OvO · 23/06/2012 19:05

Sorry, last post was very brief! Grin My 4 year old was trying to mug me of my sweeties so had to post and then literally run.

This year I'm putting Lego and playmobil mini figures in. They come in individual packs. Mine always beg for them in the shops.

Guava · 23/06/2012 20:25

Hawkins Bazaar is here know what you mean about similar products though!

TheScottishPlayer · 24/06/2012 14:42

Lego mini figures - great idea. I'll have a look at Hawkins Bazaar.

I like your criteria 70isalimit - I'll bear it in mind.

Poundland or similar is a great place. I get something every month or so, that way I have 10 or more fillers for my DS by December.

whojamaflip · 24/06/2012 14:54

Theres only 183 days till Christmas Wink

yellowflowers · 24/06/2012 20:42

Something they can take a while to master like a yo-yo.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 24/06/2012 22:32

Today I got some books from The Works (4 for £5)
And a pack of charcoal sticks for DS art works. (IIRC about £1.30)

lauracindy · 27/06/2012 11:31

my DS1 is 3 (will be 4 just after Christmas) and for him ive got on my list:

*Toy Story Flannel
*Crayons
*Scooby Doo Tooth Brush & Tooth paste set
*Scooby Doo activity sticker book
*Toy Story Torch
*Spiderman Puzzle
*Spiderman Socks
*Spiderman Pants
*Spiderman vests
*Selection box
*Scooby Doo fleece
*Spiderman bubble bath

DS2 wont be 1 until Nov so still deciding on his stocking.

TheWoollybacksWife · 27/06/2012 11:54

DS was 4.10 last Christmas and loved the torch like this with his name on that was in his stocking. He also loves his character pants Blush - last year it was Spiderman, this year it's Captain America. (Already bought, from Tesco) This year he'll have some Lego minifigures too.

eastendywendy · 27/06/2012 23:30

Ds had JUST turned 5 last Christmas, he got:

Sticker activity books and annuals for star wars /dr who
Lego minifigs
Playmobil mini figs
Some disney cars
Cheap dvd
Scooby doo goo
Bath crayons (evil)
A torch
A horn for his bike
Plasticine
A filled Cars2 pencil case
DSi case

They have sticker/activity books on 3 for a fiver in tesco just now.

ohforfoxsake · 27/06/2012 23:42

I bought lots of craft stuff last week in the ELC sale. I've forgotten where I hid it already. I do this every year, think I'll spread the cost and the work. Then I either forget I've bought it so they end up with LOADS or forget where I've hidden it.

I've also bought my panto tickets Blush

fuzzpig · 28/06/2012 09:31

I have the same criteria about tat! I refuse to get anything just for the sake of it, it has to be something I'd want them to have anyway.

I've only been doing stockings for 2 years but some ideas are:
Magic flannel
Funky toothbrush
Play figures - I get Disney type ones from eBay
Toy cars
Trains for wooden train set (last year I got ones with their initials on!)
DVD
Small book
Soft toy keyring to go on school book bag

fuzzpig · 28/06/2012 09:33

I will be getting character boxers for a stocking-filler too.

The difference being that it's for my DH :o

BiddyPop · 28/06/2012 16:10

Our stockings always had a book, fruit (red apple, green apple, orange, banana, tangerine and kiwi), box of sweets (like the 1/2lb box of fruit gums), something nice and something useful, and a big Santa pressie beside it.

My DD gets about 4-5 pieces of fruit, sweets, a book. And then a large stash of little things that are often useful too (like some nice fancy undies or new warm winter socks).

For a boy (ideas - not to get everything)
Pencils, crayons, nice rubber
Little colouring book (useful for handbags for when out after Xmas) or notebook
Stickers
Small cars, dinosaurs, farm animals....(depends on tastes)
Top, yoyo, mini games, paper airoplane set...
Small jigsaw
Undies, socks, hankies
Christmas tissues (pocket packs)
"Silly bands" (shaped elastic bands - they're all the rage here for the past 3 years!!)
Bubbles
Toy soldiers
Marbles
Small lego or duplo sets
Chalk
Bouncy ball
New toothbrush (character), toothpaste, character facecloth
Play doh
Character band aids

fuzzpig · 28/06/2012 17:58

How about a character/curly wurly drinking straw?

Also I saw on another thread about putting a can of fizzy drink in, if you don't normally allow them it - I might get one of the tiny ones for DD as she doesn't usually get cola (I don't really know why I've stayed so strict about drinks when I am probably too lax with sweets etc)

TheScottishPlayer · 28/06/2012 20:06

Some great ideas here, thanks everyone - I now have a good list. The one thing we will be getting DS is an annual - we always had an annual by our stocking every year without fail.

As above, and................a ball of string, proper string. Lots of fun to be had with string!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 29/06/2012 18:21

Thanks lauracindy selection box - how could I have forgotten Blush

They do them on BOGOF / half price (from about November onwards Grin )

And the annuals usually 2 for £5 or something.
