Victorian Christmas

I have this idea in my head that i want 'Victorian Christmas' decorations but all of the ones i've seen on the internet aren't quite right so does anyone know any websites that sell nice ones? I like deep rich reds and greens and golds. I'm on a bit of a budget but i'm thinking that if i start buying early i'll be able to spend a bit more on a few nice bits and keep adding to it. Or any ideas for homemade stuff?

Thanks in advance.

The BBC Website has some things to make for a Victorian Christmas.

Is that the sort of thing you were looking for?

Yes that looks really good thanks. I like the look of the gift bags and also putting things like pine cones and cinnamon sticks on the tree. That will smell amazing too.

QVC has got some baubles (box of 14 -in a lovely hexangonal decorated box- for £8-£10 + p&p). One set is cream with poissettias, one is pictures of houses in snow with light shining from the windows (very Thomas Kincaid). There's another set that are snowmen or stockings but these aren't Victorian. QVCuk.com. Item numbers 760296 and 759221 or put 'Christmas' into search.

They'll be having Christmas in July on 25th July and often have clearance things on.

I love the whole traditional Victorian Christmas theme.
We put fir swags down the bannister (about £10 from those Christmas shops that crop up) the proper Jolly Father Christmas, red ribbons and red/green/gold baubles. Maybe a bit of purple, bronze or silver- no pink, turqoise ,black , or yellow.
I love the idea of Christmas shopping too, wandering round the shops in the snow. But IRL it's a pain in the bum. After 2 shops and carrying bags it loses its appeal. Wink

Oh yes! I was going to look for Em's link. If you haven't already then do watch the associated Victorian Christmas programme. Lots of ideas there.

I was going to make the crackers and I hunted some little Victorian charms to put in them, but couldn't find time to make in the end, so will do this year instead.

Those qvc baubles are lovely, will definately have a better look at other things on there.

I'll see if i can find that programme on catch up tv.

Thanks for all the ideas so far.

Glad to help. Though how you can think of Christmas in June is beyond me Grin

Haha I get really excited early on but then towards October time i get less exited because i have exams at the start of December. Every year I say i'll be more organised and never am so this is the year I will be!

:-)

See, I normally get a twinge of festiveness in October, and by the time I get to December it's well and truly left me.

I have those QVC baubles, The cream ones. They are beautiful.

I think I will buy another box but waiting until they do Christmas in July in case reduced.
