12th night - losing popularity ?

I've taken all the dec's down today as I noticed a few others have too. In fact I have taken them down before the DS's go back to school most years. However I'm sure I remember everyone having to remind each other that Christmas decorations had to come down when I was younger. All that stuff about it being unlucky to keep them up and I remember others saying how they didn't care because they liked them up etc.
How long is normal now to keep them up?

We just took ours down - we always do it on the 1st / 2nd, but I'm sure my mum kept them up for longer. I just want it back to normal before we all go back to school!

12 night and that's that!
Can understand that parents with small children might like to take them down this weekend so DCs are back in school mode.
As I said on another thread, I've lots of glass baubles and I like to pack up when the DDs are out.
Also the kings don't get to the crib till the 6th ( they are still walking east to west across the book case)

LordOfTheFlies · 01/01/2012 23:14

We do ours on !st January too.
I never know when it's 12th night and I don't want to be caught out (very superstitious) so I do them early.

We don't put ours up til about 10-14 days before Christmas. So this is long enough.
Back to work Tues, DS school, DD Wednesday.

MamaPizzaChristmasToppings · 02/01/2012 17:18

I only take them down before the 12th night because I need the space for DS's crap toys. Once he is older and his toys can be stored in his room I will leave them up for longer as I love Christmas.

12th night here. My mum is French so I was brought up celebrating Epiphany with a nice meal and the brioche ring. Our decorations don't go up until just before Christmas though either though, I can understand how people must be sick of them if they put them up really early!

bunnyspoiler · 02/01/2012 17:34

We took ours down today, due to being back at work and school from tomorrow and no time after today. Looks very bare and sad. Like the idea of making a celebration of Epiphany though.

We take ours down on the 12th night. Put them up late this year.!the secs were not all up until 23rf. Bathroom was being done until 21st.

mrsmplus3 · 02/01/2012 22:22

ours are still up. my mum always took ours down on the 5th of January which is the 12th night of christmas isnt it?

i will leave my tree up til thursday but maybe start clearing house of other stuff tomorrow. :(

AutumnWitch · 02/01/2012 22:30

Ours are usually down on the 1st or 2nd. They seem rather sad once christmas has finished and I'm usually itching to get clear and tidy by about the 30th.

My parents always waited until 12th night.

Hulababy · 02/01/2012 22:31

We always take ours down before going back to work/school. I like to get my living space back!

Ours came down on Jan 1st.

ladymariner · 03/01/2012 22:30

Mine came down and all put away by the 2nd, I like them up for new years eve but then I feel as though I want to start the new year all clean and fresh. Don't like taking the tree down though as I love it. Saying that, as I've just posted on another thread, I've kept lights up in the kitchen on the top of the cupboards, and also down the bannister although without the garland obviously, simply because they look pretty and I love sparkly things. :)

mrsmplus3 · 04/01/2012 22:34

we considered today as the last day of christmas as we're taking the tree down tomorrow. we had a nice last lazy day then a nice dinner (homemade soup, salmon, potatoes and veg) followed by the christmas pudding we didnt get round to eating. i forget every year how much i actually dislike it! but anyway, back to normal tomorrow. it was a great christmas and heres to 2012!
