xmas day wine... am I being tight?

we have 16 at our house for xmas day. every year its either at my house or my inlaws. our siblings have no kids and never host but always come to us, as does my mum and grandpa.

everyone contributes one food item plus wine and we are considered to be the venue providers but not solely responsible for food/ drink.

dh has been given 3 bottles of champagne and 4 cava plus 12 bottles of wine by clients at the last minute.

we will probably hide save the vintage champagne Blush and use the cava on the day, plus use some of our wine.

my question is this: is it tight to ask our relatives to bring wine when we have quite a bit in the house anyway?

should i ring them and say dont bother with the wine/booze?

also, should point out that the booze is dh's but my side of the family is much larger.

Not being tight - everyone should chip in....

Of course you are not being tight. That wine was a present for you/DH. Get the rest of the family to contribute.

Now I am tight as I serve plonk to the inlaws who would nor know a Chablis from a Sauvignon, and keep the good stuff for myself and DH.

No - people coming over especially family and close mates should contribute. They have saved themselves time and money by going elsewhere for Christmas lunch. A tenner on a bottle of wine is a bargain for what you'll be providing.

Our families are coming over on Boxing Day. One member of the family thinks to offer a contribution and I am really grateful for an extra pud or a bottle of wine or soft drink.

I think leave it as it is, as another year you may not get the same presents from clients, but having introduced the concept this year there may be doubts on what to bring next year. Unless of course you are planning to both abstain for 2012!

StealthPolarBear · 24/12/2011 07:53

why would there be doubts?

MrsCog · 24/12/2011 07:57

At this stage I'd definitely leave it - 16 is a lot of people to provide for. Is there anyone in particular who's struggling for cash? If so, that maybe puts a different light on it, but then at this stage they've probably bought their contribution anyway.

Not doubts more an expectation to not bring the wine anymore...
