Dh is going to take dd out for a few hours. I am going to make the mackerel pate that will be served with prawns and smoked salmon for starter. Make the brown bread it will be served with.

Locate the vegetable peeler for the roast potatoes. Make the gravy in advance. And the stuffing balls. Wrap the cocktail sausages in bacon.

Anything else I should do in advance?

Put the farking sprouts on if you are in fact my dead Nan

NormanTheForeman · 22/12/2011 21:59

PMSL, the sprouts should have been put on in November! Xmas Shock

But you could peel them.........

And stuff the bird. And if you are making your own bread sauce, make the breadcrumbs. And prepare any other veg (e.g. parsnips etc, don't know what you are having)

PomBearAtTheGatesOfDoom · 22/12/2011 22:06

oo Norman, it's you - you're back Xmas Grin My dad boiled the sprouts in late october - we didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Come Christmas dinner they will be there, in the "that was a wedding present from Bob and Muriel" in 1968 tureen, next to and indistinguishable from the mushy peas in the matching tureen... "it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas" Xmas Grin

Oooh, I love a list!
Mine is:

make sure I've got all the dishes I need ready (will put in the dishwasher on Christmas Eve overnight for the 25th)
make sure I've got all the tablecover/napkins

go to Greggs- no sausagerolls here- for French Bread (Christmas Eve supper buffet) and a cut loaf for Christmas morning toast
get out my clear glass pot for coffee (instead of DH just bunging it in a mug)

magic reindeer food
candles in jars to go in the garden

wash the bedding from our bed (nice and clean for Christmas.Except I have to let hairy husband sleep there Xmas Grin )

the Christmas Eve Hampers are ready, just need to put the nametags on

trifle for lunch-will do Fri, just add cream and decorate

Buy another shedload of veg because my blardy guinea-pigs are single paw-dly supporting argriculture by scoffing what I buy

paint my nails (OPI Rainbow Connection)

I didn't go away, Pom! Just haven't posted that much on many threads, and my alter ego (SnowMuchToBits) has been using our registration a bit recently too. Nice to see you!

I don't have to do any of these things this year though, as we are away.......

twincrazy · 22/12/2011 23:05

Lordoftheflies..excuse my ignorance, well actually I presume you are lighting the candles in the garden..wish I could remember to do something like that, mind you mine wont get seen..

Is this what you meant you are putting candles in the garden?

LordOfTheFlies · 23/12/2011 00:43

Candles to act as a landing strip for the sleigh.
I might put them on the extention roof because thats outside DD window.

We took the DCs to watch Arthur Christmas so we have to make sure that she Isn't The Child Who's Missed.
(Although she's too old to believe in FC. The DCs go along with it for tradition) Xmas Grin

I do all that you do (not the Mackrel plat though) and prep all my veg and leave it in pans on the hob. I just change the water before cooking The only veg I dont prep in advance asre Parsnips as they go curly.

I also make my stuffing and sausagement meantloaf and cranberry sauce.

I dress my turkey as well. I put it in the baking tray, stuff it with onion apple and orange, stretch the skin and butter it up, cover in bacon and wrap up in foil so all I do Xmas morning is take it out the fridge for about an hour before putting it in the oven.
