Dd has this on her list since last year but we've resisted bcos we feel that it's just something else to add to all the other 'screen time' activities.

TBH don't know much about them, so how would you sell one to me?

They can be very active - e.g just dance , wii fit, wii sports etc My daughter has been practising her tennis serve lol.. they are good for family game times - (wii play , karaoke etc) but if she was just going to get addicted to Mario Cart or something I wouldn't bother.

Compared to any other console (except maybe now the PS Move and XBox Kinect are out) they are very sociable. They encourage movement and getting up and doing things. They are most fun played with other people.

They are also very reasonably priced now - esp compared to buyign the Kinect or Move, and there is a really good back catalogue of games for a tenner or so. Ive just got a Christmas game for us to play on the day, with DDs, 7 and 12, us, MIL and GMIL who is almost 80, so it really is for all ages.

Its like anything else though - you monitor use, in itself none of these things are bad, as a parent you set the boundaries for use, eg length of time, age appropriate material, etc.

because they are really good fun for all the family if you get the right games and dc laugh their heads off watching me on just dance and they can get you active and playing as a family

Depends if you have another games console / she plays games on the computer. If so, I wouldn't necessarily bother. DD is getting one for Christmas because the hand-me-down GamesCube that we have has reached the age where you can't really get interesting games for it.

As you say it is 'just more screen time' - but IMO no better and no worse than any other screen based activity whether that be watching telly or playing on Club Penguin. So fine in its place, just as sitting MN-ing is fine up to a point so long as it doesn't displace other active hobbies (or doing the washing up Blush )

They're fun to play all together. We've got some really good games that dd and I play (just dance etc) and then ones that her and dh play (mini ninja's esp) and then ones that we all play (sports resort, family game night etc).

I agree with much of what's been said (especially that I would enjoy it too Xmas Grin ).

Where do you think I could get a half decent priced one this close to xmas?
