You were driving and therefore wouldn't be able to drink?

I'm a bit put off but wondering if I'm being a bit of a saddo with alcoholic tendencies

No.

Trills · 17/12/2011 18:06

Then again I wouldn't want to travel somewhere on Christmas Day anyway.

LordOfTheFlies · 17/12/2011 18:09

Wouldn't bother me TBH I don't drink, and the roads would be quiet-ish.

Question is- who are you driving to see. Is it worth the scacrifice to see them ?

Snorbs · 17/12/2011 18:11

It depends on the reason for travelling. If it is so my mum wouldn't be forced to spend Christmas alone then I would, and have, done it without a second thought. If it was because someone else has decided I should be designated driver so I can taxi around someone I don't like, then I'd be a lot less happy about it.

That would not appeal to me at all. No, I would hate to have to drive on Christmas Day.

Yes.

Wouldn't mind, don't drink though.

perceptionreality · 17/12/2011 18:34

It's only 20 minutes away but it's not with my family - I don't know the people well at all.

I tend to end up travelling somewhere at some point on christmas day. Doesn't really bother me as I only usually have a drink in the evening and we're home by then or staying over wherever we've driven to!

Trills · 17/12/2011 18:45

Why would you want to drive 20 minutes away to see people you don't know that well on Christmas Day? Even if someone else drove so you could have some Wine?

3duracellbunnies · 17/12/2011 18:53

Roads are very quiet, we do sometimes travel on christmas day, quieter in morning than afternoon. I don't drink much so wouldn't bother me, but I guess that although nice to be invited you might think whether some of your reluctance is that you don't know the people, if you really wanted to spend the day there you shouldn't be put off by not drinking, afterall you can always make excuses early and come home for a drink early evening. We oftem have dry christmases at my parents' and it's not too bad, but only if you want to be there.

SantasENormaSnob · 17/12/2011 20:10

No chance.

FestiveFriedaWassailsAgain · 17/12/2011 20:12

I wouldn't be bothered, but then I usually only have a G and T or glass of wine about 3 x a year. But I do tend to have one on Xmas day with my lunch and wouldn't want to skip it for someone I wasn't keen on/wouldn't appreciate it.

sunnyday123 · 18/12/2011 08:26

we live 15 mins from both sets of parents and each year alternate their houses for xmas dinner so one of us always drives. We aim to get back around 6.30pm so we can have xmas night to ourselves, put the kids to bed and have a drink/movie then - really doesnt bother me as i like going there.

Is it to visit your dp/dh family?? We do a similar thing boxing day (to visit db/dsil) so we take turns which day we drink on - as we aim to get back for the night its no big deal but if it meant i'd be out all day and night then i'd be a bit miffed especially if i didnt really know them.
