dd(4) has more presents but they are things like disney dolls that weren't expensive. ds(7) has less but they cost more - lego sets etc. I have spent the same amout on each of them, but dd's pile looks much more. Does it matter? am i stressing over nothing?!

I was going to say it doesn't matter but remember my DS going on about how he got 18 presents last year for Christmas (he was 5 nearly 6) and how the actual presents seemed less significant than the number!

Can you wrap the Disney dolls and things together so as to even out the piles? You could also point out to DS how many pieces of lego he has!

Definitely group presents so that they have a similar number. They have no idea how much things cost so they will be totting it up on number of gifts

I think it depends on the child ...and the age of the child.

My older dd (almost 12) would be fine, as she understands the value of things. My two younger dd's (8 and 4) would spot the difference in pressie piles before they'd even walked in the door. And unfortunately, for my dd's, it would matter

I never try to match costs and have spent much more on my older dd than on the other 2, but I do match amounts. My children have no idea of the value of things though to be fair.

Can you buy a few more cheap wrap-ups to even the piles out a bit more?

thought this might be the case. Am going to either have to buy some more stuff for ds, not that i can think of anything! or hold some of dd's back for her birthday in Jan. It's a problem when ds wants lego and hornby trains that come in small boxes and cost a mint, and dd wants £15 dolls that come in mahoosive boxes.
Anyone got ay ideas of what else i could buy for a 7yr old boy, who doesn't really like tele, not into football, but loves cars, trains and lego?!

If her birthday is in January, I'd be tempted to keep some back. It's the cheaper option too

Win-win Xmas Grin

I agree, personally, I never look at costs - but I do match the amount of presents the children receive.

If you have too many, hold them back for birthday.

oreocrumbs · 16/12/2011 22:50

You could raid the pound shop for toy cars etc, got my friends DS some fancy looking ambulance, police etc for a pound and they were quite big!

However I agree with holding some back too - so a bit of a useless post!

I'll get back to work then Xmas Blush

My dds (12 & 9) count their presents from father Christmas & us to make sure they are treated equally....

You could buy him top trumps (top gear ones are good), bulk it out with socks, maybe a game, books?
