(DP's mother, not mine. My mother I just get some nice earrings & a hyacinth for, every year. If my brothers were to read that I would be totally outed).

Got FIL a bottle of whisky. DD is making them a photo frame with a picture of her in. MIL? I keep awaiting inspiration to strike DP but he is on nights at the moment & I don't think he is giving much time to it, normally SIL organises us into something but she isn't here this year.

She likes animals, gardening, her grandchildren... She is going to be travelling next year to see SIL & her children who have recently moved abroad, maybe a good travel item? What is a good travel item?

want to bloody wash my hands of this but she is a lovely woman & I want her to be happy at Christmas since she will be missing SIL a lot & DP is not stepping up to the plate in her absence

Bird table or if she has one already, a bird feeder you can attach to the window so she can see them while eating her lunch or in bed? Look at the rspb shop online. Good luck!

What about a few good paperback books to carry with her to read on the flights abroad?

Or if you really feel like splurging, a kindle loaded up with some good books?

A hycainth in a pot? I'm being serious I think its a nice present Xmas Grin.

A travel bag with toiletry bag, those small plastic containers you decant into and a travel hairdryer.

Leather passport holder/luggage tag set.

Is the place your SIL now lives an interesting place to visit? You could get her a lonely planet travel guide to the place.

I bought my SF one of the window bird feeders that Chips mentoned and its very nice.

A rose bush - have often fallen back on this for various garden loving relatives - DM & SF have a rather spectacular rose garden now Xmas Grin

Membership to the RSPB or donation to PDSA or something?

have you seen "ness" stuff? its really nice tartan scottish stuff. they do lovely purses for 25 quid (what my MIL is getting) and nice bags if you have more to spend.
