We'll be 5 adults for Christmas - me and DH, my parents and a single friend of ours. I'm sure we'll have a great day and I know we'll be starting on the bubbly before we're dressed but it's not quite the same is it....?

We'll see nieces and nephews on Boxing day but I know last year I felt a bit like a waitress an outsider as there wasn't even room for everyone to sit round the dining table so rather than there being a kids table in the kitchen there was an old farts and childless table!

Sod the advise when TTC, I will be making sure all adults at my house on Christmas Day get well and truly sozzled Xmas Confused

I've done it several times before DCs - me, DH, mum, dad and brother or me, DH, his parents and his nan. It's fine honestly; in fact, it's really nice. TBH I have a 14mo and 3.8 year old and this is the first year where I'm looking forward to a family Christmas because it's the first year DS has been into it. Before now it has just been stressful managing children's naps around odd mealtimes etc. It's much more relaxed than with children, more booze, more eating whatever you fancy as you don't need to set any sort of example about not eating all your chocolate before 10am etc. Make sure you have bought people things like board games or quizzes or origami planes or other silly stocking fillers and make sure everyone wears their party hats from their crackers! Forget the TTC 'rules' for Christmas I say :)

TTC @ Christmas would mean a late august / early sept baby. Late aug baby might struggle @ school if you are on English school entry system. Go for jan, which prob means you will be more relaxed and fall pg anyway and end up with aug baby!

We had our only christmas as a couple just b4 dd1 born, prob our last just with us until the children start going to in laws etc! Was quite chilled. Try to make excuses at some point an sneak out for walk with your OH, could be your last christmas with just the two of you! Good luck with ttc!

It's probably wrong to say this, but we had some amazing Christmases before the kids with friends - lovely sophisticated food, great wine, games without anyone interrupting, walks, more drink....

Christmas is for everyone, not just the children. I tell my children (now 3 are older teenagers) that I expect to be spoilt too! I want lots of stuff to open, some sleep and lovely food.

Enjoy it, and here's hoping 2012 proves very fertile for you.

Firstly, very good luck with TTC. We don't have children and always both love Christmas, whether it's just the two of us (plus three greyhounds) or as this year, DH's parents are joining us. We have many special rituals and customs, stockings will be opened, we take our time enjoying the day, the dogs have a lovely walk, and we enjoy a special meal together. It's romantic, festive and special. What's not to like?

We see family and friends' children over the Christmas period - in fact one of our nephews is coming over this weekend for a charity dog show, involving fancy dress for him and the dog! We can't wait.

I really couldn't wish for a better time than what we do - it truly is the most magical, special time of the year whether you are 8 or 80.
