Gifts for 4 & 5 year old boys?

MrsShroeder · 12/12/2011 10:35

Please help, Christmas is almost here and I have no idea what to buy my nephews. They are 4.5 & 5.5 and literally have everything two little boys could ever want, no exaggeration! Shock DSis hasn't given me any ideas because she doesn't know what to get them either. My budget is £10-15 for each child. My mum is just giving them money but I'd really like them to have something to open at Christmas. Many thanks in advance.

star wars villains sticker book for 5 yr old

clothes

disposable festive camera

MrsShroeder · 12/12/2011 11:40

Love love love the Panto idea. Brilliant, thanks so much. I always fall back on books too but am a bit uneducated on what is good for their ages as my DC are younger. Any suggestions? Thanks again for your replies, much appreciated. Smile

5 year old boy will undoubtedly love Horrid Henry - there are books and dvds you could buy

4 year old you could buy the new Julia Donaldson, or The Stick Man is noce and Christmassy if they haven't already got that

but panto sounds good, or take them to see Arthur Christmas

shinybaubles · 12/12/2011 11:46

What about some stickers each, a hot wheels car each, a small chocolate each, a book each, a few balloons (someone else can blow them up but my two boys have hours of fun playing with balloons), I don't know any boys who don't like these things.

jelliebelly · 12/12/2011 11:54

Cinema vouchers
Cool pyjamas - John Lewis have great batman, spiderman etc

PresentsRibbonsAndMerrySantas · 12/12/2011 11:54

horrid henry movie for 5.5 year old, lego, cars 2 dvd has recently come out for 4.5 year old

jelliebelly · 12/12/2011 11:56

Agree with shiny baubles - they love a kind of party bag approach - whoopee cushion, mini Lego figures, stickers, choc coins, etc

MrsShroeder · 12/12/2011 11:59

Okay so they are already going to a Panto, sheesh. I'm not kidding there is nothing these children don't have!! DSis not keen on book idea either. Xmas Confused.

why are you asking her?!!

don't ring her and tell her what your gettign fgs!!

she sounds rude

it's not up to her what you buy , what's wrong with books anyway?

shinybaubles · 12/12/2011 12:03

I don't think anyone can have too many books - go ahead and get a selection of small things in little Christmas bags - they will love it including books.

shinybaubles · 12/12/2011 12:12

What about a game at that age they can manage operation, connect4 , guess who, snakes and ladders etc, twister.
Those Julia Donaldson books are great.

MerryMarigold · 12/12/2011 12:20

I think things which get used up are great. My ds1 is just 6 and loves colouring, esp with felt tips, and they are always running out. Paper too. Do they like craft stuff? Can you get a colour-in castle or something?

When ds1 turned 4, my Mum and Dad got him one of those huge Thornton boxes, he was DELIGHTED! They were all his...(though he still had to ask to have one) and just seeing him spending ages choosing was so sweet.

Agree with stickers, it's a good 'rainy day' thing. You can get sitcker books with 1000 stickers. I have got my ds1 (yr1) a book of paper aeroplanes to make (the usborne one, there's a huge number out there).

One of those grabber things that pick up litter. They love mechanical objects like that. Swords?

Do they have scooters or bikes? If you go on ebay you can get things to customise scooters and bikes like handlebars/ stickers etc.

itsstartingtofeelalotlikexmas · 12/12/2011 12:20

I hate family dictating what should be bought for their kids, the whole pleasure is choosing imo

MerryMarigold · 12/12/2011 12:22

One of those lego heads for storing lego

itsstartingtofeelalotlikexmas · 12/12/2011 12:24

or at least coming up with a suggestion not just vetoing everything

jakesmommy · 12/12/2011 13:25

I got my DS who will be 5 in Feb a Pirates mosaic kit from Amazon, heres the link:

MrsShroeder · 12/12/2011 13:33

itsstarting I've asked her as I don't want to duplicate. They have so much, their house is like a branch of toys r us!! My DS1 acts like all his Christmasses have come at once when we visit. Last year I was so pleased with these cool marbles and a marble run I bought them, turns out they already had 3 that they don't play with. DSis can be a little high maintenance but that's a whole other thread!!!!
MerryMarigold I like the castle idea, they love knights and castles and crafty things as well. Will have a look online.
Have decided to get books anyway, it's DSis that doesn't read, not the DC's!!
Was thinking Pirate Dinosaurs for the older one and Stick Man for the younger.
Thanks so much everyone for brilliant suggestions, you are all so creative. Smile

MerryMarigold do you have links for the castle or Lego head?

OP posts:
MrsShroeder · 12/12/2011 13:43

Oops. Sorry, found them!!

NoVeggiesBeforeSkeggies · 12/12/2011 13:53

Some brilliant ideas on here.
I was just lurking to see if there was anything I could get DS, who has the most awful Christmas list this year which I shall mostly ignore

Your DSis seems hard work...Maybe some playdoh, paints, felt tips, and glitter would be a good present? Lovely. Wink

Hope you sort something!

MrsShroeder · 12/12/2011 14:52

MerryMarigold have ordered the Lego Head for my oldest DN. Thanks so much, really great idea. Think i'll get younger DN some books and maybe a Disney Car diecast. Found some limited Ed ones on eBay.(he is an avid collector!)

Thanks again everyone for brilliant suggestions. I'll be using them next year as well for my own DS. Xmas Smile
