Main present for 2yo boy?

I'm struggling with what to get him, being a 3rd child I am cynical about toys now, knowing that most of them are crap or fragile. Any recommendations for things that will actually be used and last for more than 5 minutes?

A micro-scooter (one of those 3 wheeler ones)

Bicnod · 09/12/2011 14:00

I was about to say the same thing - we got DS1 a micro-scooter for his 2nd birthday and he LOVES it.

He's now 2 and 8 months and we're getting him a balance bike as his main present for Christmas.

buggyRunner · 09/12/2011 14:01

Going to sound silly but a tea set? Dd's male friends love playing with hers?

lljkk · 09/12/2011 14:07

balance bike, go for quality if you can afford

Bicnod · 09/12/2011 14:08

buggyRunner - that's not silly at all - DS1 has a tea-set and plays with it almost every day, especially in the bath (he calls it a 'french bean party' - odd child).

LivingDead · 09/12/2011 14:09

Yes I was considering a micro scooter, but what if he is good at it? Grin I'm imagining him scooting off at high speed and me not being able to catch him. Thanks, a tea set would be good, might get one of those little shopping trollies with food too.

He will be good at it, they 'get it' really quickly (my 16m old has sussed itShock)

But worth it, DC2 got one for 2nd birthday and has only just ditched it in favour of 2 wheeler 3yrs later

lljkk · 09/12/2011 14:12

Older heavy siblings could thrash a micro scooter, too.
Your other ideas sound great, too. :)

PresentsRibbonsAndMerrySantas · 09/12/2011 15:24

an elc garage, elc also do a bq, that could go nicely with a teaset, also boys do like to push round a dolls buggy, you can get a pirate lalaloopsy doll thats a boy that would sit nice in a blue buggy Xmas Grin

LivingDead · 09/12/2011 20:37

He doesn't do dolls or buggies, have tried before Smile. Just ordered a peppa pig aquadoodle for the bargain price of £11.99, so at least that's a start. Was thinking a garage or train set, but my experiences with both are hardly great, everything I look at seems to have at least a couple of terrible reviews, gggrrrr.

SpanglyGiraffe · 09/12/2011 20:43

My DS will be 2 in march, and i'm buying him a play kitchen, along with a tea set. Hopefully it's going to be something that will last a few years!

WhatWouldLeoDo · 09/12/2011 20:44

Do you have a wooden train set at home already? DS loves his train set (mix of Brio and Bigjigs - both good quality). Although it says age 3 he's been playing with it happily since around his 2nd birthday. Bigjigs have also started doing wooden road sets (available on Amazon and elsewhere) which can link up with wooden train sets which look quite good - DS is getting one for Christmas.

MrsChemist · 09/12/2011 20:48

We've the elc garage. It's taken a thorough beating from DS and is still intact. I'd only get it if it's on sale though. Don't think it's worth the £40 they ask for it when it's not on sale.

LivingDead · 09/12/2011 21:01

We have had various wooden train sets, usually the cheapo ones, brio is extortionate, can't say they have been overly played with. I think it's just that I have wasted skip loads of money on toys in the past, which is putting me off.

I think I may have odd children, I wish they would sit and play with a dolls house or play with playmobil for ages, but imaginative games seem to involve making dens or various soft toys ect Hmm,.

I love playmobil, but the little gits just seem to lose all the bits, or scatter it in the garden.

OP posts:
LivingDead · 09/12/2011 21:06

Is it this garage people are recommending? Stingy gits don't even give you any cars to go with it Confused, will consider it if it is good though.
