another peripheral kitchen gadget - joke-shaped pizza cutter, heart shaped ice cube tray, those rubber gloves with fur around the top.

How about you?

OP posts:
MrsTwinks · 09/12/2011 13:26

Stuff from M&S that is vile and completely not my taste but is cheap from MIL. She has worked there for the last 3 years and in that time not ONE present has not been from M&S (discount darling!). DH is the same, we both dread it.

azazello · 09/12/2011 17:09

peaches in brandy or oranges in cointreau or something similar from my aunt and uncle. Yurk.

Helenagrace · 09/12/2011 19:09

Another worthy historical novel from the inlaws.

Something black from my godmother. The only time in the last 10 years that I have worn black was my father's funeral. She knows this and has even commented on the fact that I'm never seen in black!

LePruneDeMaTante · 09/12/2011 19:13

I fear I may possibly receive a picture made of felt.
Earlier in the year I was inveigled into giving an opinion on these pictures in a local gallery, and I don't think I snorted with derision tactfully demurred enough.

MrsTwinks · 09/12/2011 19:19

I'm reading some of these and realising I wouldnt mind some of these (maybe not the felt picture Xmas Wink ) Maybe we should organise a swap after the big day

Helenagrace · 09/12/2011 19:56

Excellent idea Mrs Twinks! I really could give a good home to Azozella's alcoholic fruit!

Marne · 09/12/2011 20:35

Most of the things mentioned i would be very happy with Grin, my nan (bless her) often sends me a tin of ham or some kind of tined fruit and always gives me some kind of lavander soap and hand cream which i give to my mum (who happens to work in a nursing home) and she gives it to someone who will be very happy with it. Dh bought me a very tacky pair of ear rings one year (which i coveniantly lost).

I am happy with chocolates and smellies (as long as they are from body shop or boots natural range). Also happy to have something for the kitchen.

moondog · 09/12/2011 20:38

I'd love some peaches in brandy.
Yuck to crappy chocolate.
I've just regifted a big eff off box of Milk Tray I won in a raffle.
No way would I eat that.

andaPontyinaPearTreeeeee · 09/12/2011 21:13

A scarf handed over by my mum with the words "if you don't like it I'll have it" Hmm

Thankfully that hasn't happened for a few years!

baskingseals · 09/12/2011 22:01

Last year I got The Camera. It was a big fuck off expensive Camera. I paid for half of it and got DH some other little bits and pieces as well. I got a novelty badge.

This year I am getting a diamond ring having recently pushed a 9lb baby out of my nethers. He is getting ice axes. Everyone is happy.

My MIL, however, will undoubtedly give me something entirely random that she has found at a craft fair or in a "curiosity shop" that she saw and "thought of me." Most outstanding example is the small felt ball with googly eyes, pinned on feet and ears and no explanation. I will have to smile and tell her how wonderful it is while wondering what the actual fuck it is and what I'm supposed to do with it. At least smellies and chocolates you know what the intention was...

KinkyDoritoWithFairyLightsOn · 10/12/2011 14:38

PMSL at this thread. Goodwitch femfresh wipes Xmas Grin Xmas Grin Xmas Grin. Gloria googly-eyed felt ball that made MIL think of you Xmas Grin.

Thanks for this. It's cheered me right up.

rhondajean · 10/12/2011 15:38

I obviously have Very Low Standards - I love smellies sets and chocolates and novelty kitchen gadgets...

I do not love the novelty Christmas decorations GMIL buys. I tend to "lose" them from year to the next - dont want to hurt her feelings! Though I was a bit Xmas Hmm when I was told that I wasnt meant to burn the santa and snowmen candles. My bad!

OrmIrian · 10/12/2011 20:25

at diamond ring. I would love a beautifully impractical expensive romantic present. Just once Sad But I am not the sort of woman that gets given diamonds. Use rather than ornament

FoxyRevenger · 10/12/2011 20:31

From the ILs - a watch and smellies. Despite them knowing me for over a decade and knowing that I have eczema and can't use smellies or wear a watch.

From SIL - some shit she picked up during her weekly shop. Last year - a grinder of chilli flakes. Compared to the £50 bracelet she got.

ShatnersBassoon · 10/12/2011 20:35

I do not want, but I know I will get, a piece of jewellery from Past Times.

ditavonteesed · 10/12/2011 20:49

now I am worried about the snowman salt shaker I have bought for bth sils because I loved it.
I am over the moon with both smellies and chocolates and I love any random shit that comes my way (just grateful to actually get something to open).

moondog · 11/12/2011 19:23

But that's you Dita, not them. Grin

ProperLush · 11/12/2011 20:47

A slightly too small T shirt adorned with badly drawn Australian bush animals in that 'plump' paint.

No.

DangerousDorothy · 12/12/2011 11:51

The one size too small clothes that my mum buys me despite knowing what size I am. I think she is in denial that her daughter is a bit fat.
The thing is I have had loads of ideas this year of small inexpensive things I would really love but I know my mum and sister have done their shopping and haven't asked me so god knows what I will get.
That sounds really ungrateful but they are the sort that will comment and be nasty if they don't see you in the item they got for you etc so makes it a bit of a stressy time for me.

VikingLady · 12/12/2011 12:51

I am expecting clingfilm from the in laws again... Every year...

KWL51 · 12/12/2011 13:39

i dread to think, every suggestion of what i would like is met with that costs too much!
ive only been with my bf for a few months so not expecting much there, but my mum who keeps saying if i could have something i really want what would it be, so have trotted out tonnes ranging from £20 to over £500 but everything is too expensive and i expect too much! Xmas Sad

wahwahwah · 12/12/2011 13:46

Fashion jewellery. I don't wear fashion jewellery. In fact, I hardly every wear jewellery anyway. I have drawer fills of 'real' stuff but very rarely ever wear it.

mycatoscar · 12/12/2011 14:32

Last year I got tea towels from SIL Angry. I had fun shopping for her this year! Grin

AReindeerCalledHorse · 12/12/2011 14:40

We got married last year, DH's fav Aunt & Uncle bought us a cake slice (engraved with the date & our names), for Christmas we got, without the engravings, the same cake slice, as did B&SIL.

I hope our presents match again this year!
