We dont want to get a christmas tree this year as dd is just learning to walk and very curious. What can We get as an alternative?

Are you worried it might get pulled down? When ds2 (ASD) was smaller the tree used to come down fairly regularly, then one year we tied the trunk to a wall bracket and put the whole thing on a table inside the playpen. Decorated the table and bars of the playpen with tinsel and coloured silk offcuts and put the presents inside it - Looked very pretty and did the job every year.

Not exactly pulling it down but hurting herself on branches, pulling all the decorations off etc. we always had one with previous dcs but they were much younger or old enough not to worry too much.

What about a small fake or real tree on a table/dresser/sideboard out of reach? Or a small fake tree hanging on a wall? (Just use half the branches if detachable, or bend them around to the front if permanently attached. Leave off the stand and do something to hide the trunk.) You can still decorateit and put lights on.

I wouldnt not have one, but just adapt it slightly.

Playpen round it, get a cheaper smaller one and put it on a table, use plastic/soft decorations etc.
Theres been plenty of threads on here lately about this with some good ideas.

Our tree is put in the corner of the room with the sofa's butted up against each side. Its not going anywhere and any baubles in reach from the sofas are plastic or soft ones. DD2 is currently 18mths and its not been a problem, nor when DD1 was little at xmas.

Wouldn't your older DC be abit upset not having a tree this year?

I was worried about this with ds, he hasnt touched the tree, he just sits looking at it!

We have a small tabletop tree. We have used it for the last couple of years because we have twins and their stuff takes up a lot of floor space so we just figured that it would be easier to have a small tree out of their way. I bought it from John Lewis including some scaled down decorations and led lights. I don't think any of our dc miss a bigger tree and it is better than constantly telling off the two smallest for touching/pulling/running into it! I also have candles and other Christmassy bits about the house so it still feels festive.
