I am thinking of thermal socks for wellies on SIL's suggestion but as we do Secret Santa among the adults in dh's family, I have to spend about £50 and give something quite substantial. Seriously have NO idea, MIL works in a woollens shop so buying a jumper or the like is also out, and the man doesn't shave. What DO you buy a 60 year old man

Five pairs of thermal socks

celebmum · 07/12/2011 16:08

Does he drink? A decent bottle of whiskey or the like? Does he read at all? Any books he might like? Thorntons do a decent diabetic chocolate & toffee range? How about a gift bag of one of each of the above!?? Grin

A leatherman type multi-tool, something like this:

www.amazon.co.uk/Leatherman-Blast-Multi-Tool-Leather-Pouch/dp/B000PCUUCQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1323274256&sr=8-1

Bound to be useful to a farmer.

We have the same problem with my FIL he only buys what he needs and doesnt ever want for anything as he isnt used to getting gifts, we got him a scroll of the story behind his surname and had it framed, would he like something like this, but after getting him the newspaper of the day he was born for his birthday and other gifty bits like that he will be back to PJ's and socks!
Or what about some decent new wellies?

Something outdoorsy? Like hat/scarf/gloves? Something from here

LoveInAColdClimate · 07/12/2011 16:17

My FIL is just the same. We have bought him an asparagus bed but think it may be a bit coals to newcastle...

PomBearAtTheGatesOfDoom · 07/12/2011 19:43

Maybe a pair of binoculars so he can "view his land" if something catches his eye, without having to go see in person if he doesn't need to (did that make sense?)

SantasNutellaFairy · 07/12/2011 19:52

A weather station thingy? My Dad sounds a bit like this man, and he is slightly obsessed with the weather...

SuePurblybiltbyElves · 07/12/2011 21:00

Tractor stuff. I've seen books, cufflinks, all sorts of nonsense Grin

schroeder · 07/12/2011 21:03

Weather station thingie sounds good,

was going to say diary, handwarmers, swiss army knife before I saw the budget.

working9while5 · 07/12/2011 21:51

Ooh some great ideas here.

I think the weather station stuff might be a winner... had a look online and there are SO MANY! My God! I am going to head to the Weather topic to ask those ladies if they know of a good one...

If there are any lurkers looking to buy for a farmer, he has this great cup that says "my tractor cost more than your fancy car". I wish that hadn't already been bought for him!

Wind up radio?

3duracellbunnies · 08/12/2011 06:10

If you get a radio is worth getting digital, a friend works outside + they said digital better as doesn't lose the station in the same way as analogue. Worth checking first that the reception is good there, and a good transparent waterproof bag to put it in, might be more than 50 though.

Mr Men socks and pants ( saw some nice ones in M& S) You make him sound very durr!
