Hand cream? They probably wash their hands all day long working in a nursery.

salvadory · 04/12/2011 20:10

Am thinking of buying kilner type jars from ikea and making gingerbread biscuits in xmas shapes, tying with nice ribbon et voila!! ( hopefully they won't take it out on dd if they hate them!!!- my baking skills are not the best!)

BendyBob · 04/12/2011 20:18

Um..Biscuits.

I seem to remember buying something like this once for lots of teachers.

You can get similar in coffee and chocolate too.

pigleychez · 04/12/2011 20:22

I have 8 to buy for.

Have decided on making a little bag of White choc and Cranberry fudge each and have also made them a little personalised Gingerbread decoration each. (pic on profile)

molly3478 · 04/12/2011 20:23

Everyone usually buys us a tin or box of chocs to share

bytheMoonlight · 04/12/2011 20:27

They are amazing pigleychez, and the photo's of your daughters are gorgeous!!

I might go with hand cream.

Gingerbread biscuits are a fab idea! Although my baking and decorating skills leave a lot to be desired so may not be in much demand ...

I thought they might have to many tins or chocs molly

Christmas decorations - MandS have them on 3for2 at the moment, can get decs for say 3 for £4, so 9 for £12. I always remember who gave me a specific decoration.

racingheart · 04/12/2011 20:36

Handcream is a great idea. Or some lovely sachets of fresh coffee and hot chocolate for them to have on their breaks as a change from cheap instant. If your DC has a keyworker, you could get her something a bit more special. We bought ours leather purses - didn't cost the earth and they were really pleased with them.

OnTheBen10DaysofChristmas · 04/12/2011 20:44

I love the Christmas decoration idea PandaG. I was struggling for teacher/TA/beavers/breakfast club/sports club people so that is a great idea :)

OnTheBen10DaysofChristmas · 04/12/2011 20:56

I did brownies in a jar one year which was very successful.

tallwivglasses · 04/12/2011 21:02

Pigly can I have your life, please? Xmas Grin

I raid charity shops for soaps and candles - you can get perfect gorgeous ones (obviously originally unwanted presents, but that doesn't put me off...I wonder if it should?)

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 04/12/2011 21:03

I like the Christmas decoration idea too, I considered it a couple of years ago but spent so long being indecisive and counting in 3s in M&S that I ended up just buying chocs.

2kidsintow · 04/12/2011 21:15

I got some cute santa claus baskets from Hobbycraft for £1.50 each and a large tub of chocolates. I'll be asking the kids to put a handful of chocs in each basket for their teachers.

PomBearAtTheGatesOfDoom · 04/12/2011 21:23

We don't buy them anything. We would be "viewed askance" and many Hmm faces if we did. I always think of "teacher gifts" as an "American thing" somehow - it's just not something people here do at all.
My dad was a college lecturer, and he got the odd bottle of whisky tpe thing from students he'd given extra help/tutoring/lifts too, but presents for teachers and ordinary students just don't happen.

PomBearAtTheGatesOfDoom · 04/12/2011 21:24

oops from ordinary students

bytheMoonlight · 04/12/2011 22:33

I won't be buying bottles of whiskey PomBear!!

In the past when I've not wanted to spend much per teacher I've bought small packets of biscotti or amaretti biscuits - you can get nice ones in Waitose for about £2 each Biscotti
You can make then yourself but I CBA didn't have time when the children were small

MrsJangleBalls · 04/12/2011 23:41

Shit, we're meant to give presents to the teachers??

bessie26 · 05/12/2011 01:18

Exactly what I thought mrsjangles - we are talking a pre-school kind of nursery right? I thought I might get DD1 to scrawl over a card for her key worker, but that was it!

3duracellbunnies · 05/12/2011 06:59

I save up empty jam/choc spread jars for a few months and fill them with homemade truffles (alcohol free just in caase), sadly I always make too many so have to eat the rest. This year putting homemade christmas decorations round the lid instead of elastic band to hold fabric on. They do class collections for vouchers but my LOs like to do their own thing.

ToothlesstheDragon · 05/12/2011 09:25

i think (going to have to check) i have 6 to buy for, for DS's nursery. Was thinking of getting 6 lush bathbombs and they can just choose one

bytheMoonlight · 05/12/2011 10:30

How much would that cost roughly Toothless? I might do that

sunnyday123 · 05/12/2011 10:42

dd had got her pre school team a tin of roses which i will take in a few days early so they have time to eat them! Not very original but i have too many to buy for to worry about buying teachers!

pigleychez · 05/12/2011 11:09

Moonlight- They are roughly about £3/4 each.

One thing Ive heard done is a Magazine subscription for them all in the staffroom.

PresentsRibbonsAndMerrySantas · 05/12/2011 11:12

i don't buy any thing, never have i have 3 dc's at school, but i know lots that do and chocs and biscuits seem to be the norm, one brings in flowers, me nothing slope in and quickly out of the class on that day Xmas Grin
