Hi, PIL coming to us. Only have to get them small gift as we are doing dinner (they kindly offered to pay for Internet shop to be delivered to us before Christmas with stuff for Xmas dinner but we said no just being a couple of bottles of wine instead). They have mugs with my dd's pic on from her. I feel we should get something from us too but v tight budget.

They don't like nice foods
They don't drink
I hate buying smellies or candles
They are very particular about DVDs
They don't 'get' novelty stuff
They don't read

Fil is into computers
Mil doesn't really have hobbies

They are v nice, don't get me wrong, but I'm lacking inspiration

voucher for National Trust?

LydiaWickham · 04/12/2011 11:05

my fall back gift for parents this year, get the DCs to a pottery painting place, handprints on a jug. (should set you back about £15)

They might not be 'in to' nice food, but they need to eat, get them some posh chutneys, or a cheese board and knife

Gloves, most people have lost gloves, but most manage to keep hold of scarves.

Frozen planet is out on DVD from next week, you can pre-order from Amazon, that's quite grandparent-y....

florencepink · 04/12/2011 11:06

Garden centre vouchers or just something for the garden or house if you don't want to get vouchers?

thereistheball · 04/12/2011 11:17

Frozen planet or Downton DVD
If you have cash left you could addin mini hot water bottles or something to make them comfy on the sofa.

cottonreels · 04/12/2011 11:22

Spring bulbs for the garden?

3duracellbunnies · 04/12/2011 17:49

Our parents too have most things, they asked for fridge magnets! Also giving them memory books so they can fill in their childhood memories and give them back to the LOs, our children are always wanting to know about the 'olden days', though 4yr old asking dh how old he was in stone age took it a bit far.

Thanks for all the ideas. The thing they are into most of all is watching telly. Hmmm.

suebfg · 04/12/2011 19:27

What about a boardgame of some sort? Maybe TV related?

tassisssss · 04/12/2011 19:29

Came on to suggest Downtown abbey or Frozen planet box set and both have been already suggested...must be right!

HippyHippopotamus · 04/12/2011 19:32

Just lurking to steal ideas!

Jcee · 04/12/2011 19:35

Amazon vouchers so they can choose their own box set and some of their fave treats to eat whilst watching it?

HippyHippopotamus · 04/12/2011 22:21

hmm, maybe. i'm only going down the voucher route if i really have to...

allagory · 04/12/2011 22:42

What about a rose bush? David Austin Roses are gorgeous. You might be able to find one with your MiL's name. Or if not, this one is cheap. (THink because it's named after Alan Titchmarsh!)

HippyHippopotamus · 05/12/2011 08:12

Sorry Blush my message re vouchers is on the wrong thread Blush

munstersmum · 05/12/2011 09:59

Not inspiring but v practical - those ice trak gripper things that go on over your shoes so no nasty falls. Best present received last year according to my parents

reckoner · 05/12/2011 10:16

A mahjong set or scrabble
A nice blanket
Minecraft for FIL :)
(Leather) gloves

Ragwort · 05/12/2011 10:20

Why don't you just ask them direct? Most people have far too much stuff and would be happy just with your company for the day? Maybe a little bit late but why not say 'as we all have more than enough ourselves shall we just do presents for the children this year?'

I'll never forget clearing out my GM's house after she died and finding loads of sets of bath soap etc that we had all given her over the years Sad.
