This is the first Christmas we having at home, just the four of us.

We didn't need a huge joint but wanted something that looked a bit special so went with this lamb crown

We are obv. potatoes, parsnips, carrots and sprouts with it.

But what gravy would you do and anything else? Dh is feeling a bit put out we won't be having stuffing Grin

If it's lamb its got to be lamb and mint gravy! Mmmmmmmm

And for some reason you always have to have pigs in blankets on xmas day!

Methe · 03/12/2011 19:07

We are having goose but only a frozen one from lidl. Might do a turkey crown too.

Oh how could I forgot pigs in blankets Shock !!!

Would mint sauce go with that do you think?

spiced braised cabbage would be very good with it too,

tbh, i'd steer away from mint sauce with the fruit element in the roast. it would taste like ribena after brusing your teeth Grin

I made a lovely red wine, cranberry and rosemary reduction once but could not do it again without the recipe. Sorry, but try googling it.
Just do stuffing separately.... Tricky as lamb is so distinctive you wouldn't want the flavours to clash.
Yum anyway.
Couldn't you make gravy from the lamb juices?

cairnterrier · 03/12/2011 19:12

Just make whatever you want! Your Christmas, your rules, part of the benefit of just having it at your home. Hope you have a wonderful day, whatever you have to eat.

PS Your husband is right about having stuffing though. Essential for Boxing day sandwiches.

So I need to find a stuffing recipe which compliments? Hmmm ...

And to google the WowOoo's suggestion!

I could make a grave from the jucies but I was hoping to freeze it to minimise being stuck in the kitchen christmas day!

Do a lamb joint some time before Cristmas then and make the gravy then. Double loveliness.
It doesn't have to compliment. I'm having Xmas dinner with family who think they're Gordon Bloody Ramsay and I think their talk is rubbing off on me.

That red wine thing was v easy though - open the wine, drink some, put sugar and wine and add cranberries or any kind of sweet sharp berry on a low boil and and a bit of water if it gets too thick and sprig of rosemary. Something like that. I was tipsy but it came out lovely and I bloody chucked the recipe.

Lamb joint before Christmas is a good idea!

Fpund this though which looks easy and tasty I think

and this stuffing looks doable and would compliment I think?

i do a vegetatian version of that stuffing. i could eat it on it's own!!

piratecat · 03/12/2011 20:04

lol vegetarian i mean

bytheMoonlight · 03/12/2011 20:08

That's the stuffing decided then piratecat! Could I make it and freeze it? Or make it Christmas eve and put in fridge do you think?

OP posts:
piratecat · 03/12/2011 20:28

you could do both!

you could make it, form into balls ( I do mine in one big lump) and freeze.

bytheMoonlight · 04/12/2011 20:29

Thanks piratecat, will form into balls and freeze!! One hapy dh Grin
