I haven't seen it, but it has had good reviews.

AlmaWalkingInAWinterWonderland · 03/12/2011 17:41

We saw Arthur Christmas last week and loves it. I'm very soppy and DD's only 3 though.

LePruneDeMaTante · 03/12/2011 17:45

Hugo isn't rubbish, but it's not an action film (much) and it's nothing to do with Christmas. It's beautiful and atmospheric and reverent, but a sentimental story.

I have a couple of designer/artist friends - no kids - who said Arthur Christmas was ace. DS is 8 and loved it. dunno if that helps!

ginmakesitallok · 03/12/2011 17:56

We took dd2 and some of her friends to see it a couple of weeks shop-and it was great, even dp loved it!

SantaffetaClaus · 03/12/2011 18:08

It is BRILLIANT

I loved it. I went with 2 friends and assorted DC - age range 5-10, they all loved it.

One of my friends said she wished her 12yo and 15yo were there too as they would have loved it as well.

Great story, not too smushy, great British actors ( Jim Broadbent, Bill Nighy ( who steals the show as Grandsanta ) Imelda Staunton, James McAvoy and Hugh Laurie ), fab Aardman animation.

Brilliant. I really badly want to see it again! Xmas Grin

I took 3dcs 10, 7 and 4. 10 yr old thought it was ok, 7 yr loved it and 4 yr old talked through it asking if it was finished yet

HoneyandHaycorns · 03/12/2011 18:31

Haven't seen it but 6yo dd said it was great! :)

senioroafdog · 03/12/2011 18:37

Went to see it this afternoon, amazing for all ages, really loved it!!Smile

CrumbsOnTheFloor · 03/12/2011 19:44

I'm going to see it tomorrow so yay for the good reviews. (with the kids natch).

puzzlesum · 03/12/2011 19:46

Saw it last weekend with ds (6) - he wants to go and see it again tomorrow! It was good - not sure I'd watch it again out of choice but not distraught at the idea of seeing it again either.

MarksPA · 03/12/2011 20:40

We saw it last weekend with our troop. All, inc adults, loved it which is a tall order considering I have DD1 (3yo), DSD1 (18), DSD2 (15) and DSD3 (11). DD2 doesn't count as she's 6 months and rudely slept through the whole thing! We wouldn't watch it again at the cinema but it's definitely not to be missed. We're the sort of family who got excited at seeing ad posters for the new Muppets movie in the new year! Xmas Grin

I can remember one scary bit- lions chasing Arthur and grand Santa, that scene made DD (5) close her eyes and she's usually not easily scared.. Most of the film is lovely and funny, no evil characters. I loved it, would happily watch it again if had to.

kandinskysgirl · 03/12/2011 21:18

I saw it with DP (23) we were the only people without children who saw it which was slightly embarrassing. However we both LOVED it.

It's a really good up to date film about Christmas and I would watch it again tomorrow happily.

FebreezeYourJeans · 03/12/2011 21:19

I wasn't wild about it - hate that it casts doubt on Father Christmas. OPening line 'Santa, are you real' (or similar) It hadn't occurred to mine to even question it.

However, yours are older and am guessing that's not an issue.

MarksPA · 03/12/2011 21:20

DD1 has low tolerance to peril and flinched a bit at the lions chasing but was not scared as such. Dad just cuddled and whispered assurance that 'they'd never catch Arthur' and by the time he'd done and said that, the scene was pretty much over and everyone safe. The scene also ends comically (won't spoil story) so even if a bit flinchy at the lions, our DD1 was giggling at the end of the scene.

CrumbsOnTheFloor · 03/12/2011 21:32

Did people see it in 3D? I've never seen a 3D movie before.

SantaffetaClaus · 03/12/2011 22:08

I saw it in 3D but I wouldn't say it was important, iykwim. I didn't really notice the 3D element.

None of the children I went with clocked any doubt about Santa, there is way too much else going on, esp at the beginning.

TeaOneSugarPlumFairy · 03/12/2011 22:33

Loved it.

chippy47 · 04/12/2011 00:21

If you want your kids to think everything you have told them about Father Christmas is sort of wrong then go and see it. Aardman have done much better stuff than this. I can see I am in a minority here though.

CointreauVersial · 04/12/2011 00:36

It has had good reviews. We are trying to decide between Arthur Christmas and Puss in Boots (Shrek spin-off).

ProperLush · 04/12/2011 09:47

I'm not worried about 'giving the game away' seeing as my two are 10 1/2 and 12 1/2!

What Aardman would you recommend, chippy?

Nothing new. All the Wallace and gromit stuff has longevity. Mine are still young enough to believe so Arthur threw a spanner in the works.
