Best fake tree. Have we done this?

On phone so can't search too well...

Tree collapsed last year so I fecked it out and intended to use our standby pencil tree this year. But dd (3.10) is desperate to get involved and I think she'll be really disappointed with it. So, last minute decision made to buy a new tree but funds aren't great (about £60 max), preferably 6ft and not too wide.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a tree they bought this year? Xmas Smile

tesco have £60 trees reduced to half price

Seona1973 · 03/12/2011 09:09

Argos also have reduced trees

ChippyMinton · 03/12/2011 09:17

homebase have a decent selection, half-price and 20% off today

GwendolineMaryLacedwithBrandy · 03/12/2011 09:23

Thanks. I'm just looking at Homebase now. I just didn't want to buy one and find it was really spindly and manky!

Are you ordering online or going to the store?
I bought a pre-lit one (dew-drop) in the end as it wa cheaper than buying the tree and LED lights separately.
Just trying to remember which was my first choice of the unlit trees.

Going to the store. Trying to choose between snow tipped and Vienna mixed tips... Xmas Confused. Our last tree was 12 years old, I'm out of practice at this!

It's best to look at them. Don't forget your discount voucher!

Even cheap trees look good if you put them up properly (many years of my youth working in garden centre where Christmas starts in August). Difficult to explain but when you put the individual branch in the holder there will be 2/3 twigs put them into 2 u shapes either side of the main branch and the other underneath. As you move away from the 'trunk' put the next 2 or 3 in u's that go up and then keep alternating until the end. The next branch your first u's nearest the trunk wil go up and so on.
Even very spindly trees look bushy and you don't get gaps.
Perhaps I could set up a seasonal business putting up trees

Get yourself round here, o clever tree-fluffer! There are a few videos on youtube which show what you mean too.

Yay!
I've just unpacked mine, got bored with 'fluffing' and popped in here for some fun!

Thehusbandsatcricketagain · 03/12/2011 19:54

i have literally just finished testing mine, totally fake but am very impressed for the small price I paid for mine

It was from very, not too sure if that's just an online place or a catalogue, anyhoo I bought a slimline 6'5ft tree & have to say was just rabbiting to dh how impressed with it I am,for a fake tree i's nice & full & it's uniform (this helps with my slight ocd about having things equal) :o

ChippyMinton · 04/12/2011 06:36

Pleased with mine too, all 7ft of it. Spent about two hours fluffing out the branches to make it look as real as possible.

dinkydoos · 04/12/2011 07:31

chippy, where did you getyour tree from in the end? think i rememberyou looking on ebay and i looked at your links and really liked it.

was wondering how they looked in rl!

ChippyMinton · 04/12/2011 07:47

homebase -it's a prelit one called dewdrop. Rather ££ but should last a few years I reckon. And included the LED lights which were about £30 separately.

dinkydoos · 04/12/2011 07:57

cool, will take a look

thanks

GwendolineMaryLacedwithBrandy · 04/12/2011 08:11

I would have gone for pre-lit but it seems we possess more sets of lights than Blackpool...

DD is quite disgusted with the tasteful warm white LEDs so I have had to promise to add coloured lights next year. I keep stringing ours up in the garden for the summer then forgetting to take them down...
