And is it easy to cook?

someone on here described it as 'vile' the other day.

Helenagrace · 03/12/2011 07:48

I bought one last year - fortunately not for the big day itself. It was awful, - dry, really salty but otherwise tasteless.

I don't know why I bought it tbh as I'm normally a total food snob and never buy supermarket meat.

Personally I rather get a nice chicken from the butchers.

It was very disappointing last year. Their turkey crown otoh was delicious.

Popbiscuit · 03/12/2011 13:09

Is this a real thing? Like a Turducken? I always thought that was an urban legend! I don't know what it would taste like but it would certainly have WOW factor if that's your goal. I think I'd personally stick to a singular bird though... sounds like a food safety nightmare.

picnicbasketcase · 03/12/2011 13:11

Three bird roasts are fowl.

thousandDenierStocking · 03/12/2011 13:12

try this instead

JennyPiccolo · 03/12/2011 13:15

my mum gets the Aldi turkey crown EVERY YEAR and it's really good. (My parents are total meat snobs as well)

Never fancied the 3 bird roast thing, tbh.

BendyBob · 03/12/2011 13:26

I've seen those in Aldi, they look like something from Tudor times.

I can imagine it being brought in shoulder high accompanied by a pie full of four and twenty blackbirds.

There's something about it that doesn't appeal to me somehow.

Mrsrobertduvall · 03/12/2011 13:26

It sounds horrible.
I would just get a chicken. But then I am getting something from M and S this year and am not planning to cook at all, in the real sense.

PigletJohn · 03/12/2011 13:28

I've been doing organic bronze turkeys for years, tried a Turkey Crown (or it might have been a saddle?) for first time a couple of years back, have never had such a successful roast. With no legs and wings there is no prob getting all the bits correctly cooked at the same time. Enough to feed a good tableful of people, and very easy to carve.

Not much left over for stock and the birds, though.

HugosGoatee · 03/12/2011 13:30

picnic

ProfYaffle · 03/12/2011 13:34

I wasn't massively impressed with it, it was OK but not 'special', fortunately we didn't have it for Xmas day itself. This year I've gone for Lidl's goose Smile

MsGee · 03/12/2011 16:34

This freakin bird has been the cause of a major family argument here. PIL told us about it last year and we laughed saying it sounded odd. MIL said it was in a sort of roll though?

MIL took this as a sign we are snobs. Which in time became that we look down on them and eventually that we don't love them because we think we're too good for them. All over a fucking bird (or three Smile ).

All sorted now after a big to do but it caused some serious problems.

ProfYaffle · 03/12/2011 16:39

Yeah, it's not an actual bird, it was thick slices of each meat sort of 'glued' together with stuffing. I found that when we tried to slice it, all the layers slipped apart. I'm also Queen of the Leftovers and the flavour of the stuffing and glaze was so distinct you couldn't turn the leftovers into something else iyswim.

yellowflowers · 03/12/2011 18:37

Right, maybe the turkey crown instead

It is 4 birds this year with a marmalade glaze.

We had the 3 bird 2 years ago and I thankfully did a posh sauce - this helped to cover up the mess of it all falling apart. My dad in his 70s left all the duck, but on the whole folk thought it was passable, and EASY (I was heavily pregnant).

Last year we had the Goose, and Dad left it all, as did Mum. I did not like it either, but that is probably a personal taste thing. There was very little meat on it. DH thought it was awesome.

This year we are having their stuffed turkey roast, again for ease as I want to actually see my kids on Christmas Day.
