Who on earth wants a Mcdonalds over the festive period??

I suppose we do live in Multicultural Britain though but hmmm I am not a Christian either

Yum yum... pancakes and syrup for breakfast xmas morning.

Poor employees having to work though, im not christian but christmas is a special day for family in this country regardless.

FioFio · 30/11/2011 13:10

I know, it's the staff i feel sorry for too. I used to think it pointless as a retail manager having to open boxing day so that people could queue and be abusive to you whilst bringing stuff back but does anyone really need a big mac on christmas day?

It's a bit different working in a restaurant because at least it's for a set time and you get tips

Why poor staff? Do you also feel sorry for the staff in hospitals/police stations? Is it any different? Or is it different because working for McD's is far less worthy then working in a hospital?

thisisyesterday · 30/11/2011 13:16

when i first saw this thread title i thought "how sad" that people would be in there rather than at home with family etc etc

but yo know, i think there are tons of people who don't celebrate christmas, and while I think most people could probably live without mcdonald's for one day hey, it doesn't bother me if those people who don't celebrate want to carry on and do everyhitng they'd normally do.,

don't feel sorry for staff either. I would imagine they either do not celebrate either, or are making the most of an inflated wage for the day.
not like they'll be forced at gunpoint to work,

CrotchFlakes · 30/11/2011 13:16

Oooh

thisisyesterday · 30/11/2011 13:16

we used to argue over who would come in on christmas eve at the national trust restaurant I used to work in cos it was triple pay!!!

PattySimcox · 30/11/2011 13:16

Maybe poor staff cos Mcdonalds isnt an essential in the same way that hospitals / police are?

chrimblycompo · 30/11/2011 13:17

where do you live? London?

Runoutofideas · 30/11/2011 13:23

I used to run a large restaurant which served lunch on Christmas Day (not McDonalds!) It was surprisingly easy to get staff to come in as most of the teenagers and students seemed happy to get the double pay and escape the family festivities for a few hours. They would then get New Years Eve off when most of the older staff/staff with children were happier to work for more money, so everyone was a winner - apart from me who had to do all of it!

FioFio · 30/11/2011 13:23

belgo, don't be so ridiculous, why on earth would I judge someone working for Mcdonalds as less worthy when I used to work for burger king myself Hmm and working in a hospital as a nurse or a dr is an essential surely? and yes, i feel sorry for them as well! We didn't get paid any extra for christmas days when i worked in retail either, you got your normal salary

I live just outside of Luton

Wahey! That's Christmas lunch sorted.

sillymillyb · 30/11/2011 14:10

My ex proudly told me he and his shift had chicken nuggets from maccy d's for their tea last year.... sad bunch (especially seeing as I had plated up a chirmbo dinner for him to reheat)

chrimblycompo · 30/11/2011 14:12

FioFio - have I got the right poster? did you used to live in H/Bay

FioFio · 30/11/2011 14:13

I serpently did :) are you okay compo?

OP posts:
chrimblycompo · 30/11/2011 14:14

I had no idea you had moved

but I did think it unlikely h/bay had a maccyd's that would open xmas day!

I'm fine thanks, how are you m'dear?

troisgarcons · 30/11/2011 14:17

There will be a lot of people who dont have families or indeed homes. There will also be other people who are travelling. There will also be a lot of people (shift) working as well.

FioFio · 30/11/2011 14:20

I moved about 18 months ago :) We still have the house there though as it wont bloody sell We are all fine :)

trois, it's in the middle of retail park actually so I don't think it will be useful for homeless people or people travelling. To be fair they do a great soup kitchen thing in the town on christmas day for the homeless :)

MaccyDs is often used a hand over point between separated parents.
So common is it Judges and lawyers often refer to it as McContact Wink.

I should imagine it will be heavily used on xmas day for this reason/

pollywollyhadadollycalledmolly · 30/11/2011 14:32

Fab :) a nice big tasty with bacon for my Xmas dinner!! Means I wouldn't need to cook as I'll be ready to explode lo

FioFio · 30/11/2011 14:32

I hadn't thought about that :(

OP posts:
PresentsRibbonsAndMerrySantas · 30/11/2011 14:32

christmas dinner sorted Wink and no washing up!!!!

belgo · 30/11/2011 14:56

Fiofio you have totally misunderstood my post. I know you're not judging them; it just seems strange to me to say 'poor staff'.

CarrieInAnotherTWOBabiTWINS · 30/11/2011 15:00

poor staff, you can't compare opening mcdonalds o xmas day to keeping hospitals running.

belgo · 30/11/2011 15:20

Anyway sorry if I caused offence. I didn't mean to.

FioFio · 30/11/2011 15:26

It's okay, i just didn't want you think i was judging them that's all. I am not like that at all :) I think after years of working in retail management though I knew for a fact that not one member of staff wanted to be there on boxing day even if they did get paid for it. Boxing day was not treated as bank holiday either in any company i worked in so wasn't at extra time either, though I know in my last employment they stopped paying bank holiday at extra rate as well.
