What does a family get for their DDad for Christmas with a budget of £120?

He is 70, very fit, a very keen golfer in the summer, walks for miles in the winter, reads lots but:

-already has a kindle
-already has a sky caddy
-is getting new golf shoes
-doesn't need any new clubs
-doesn't need any clothes, jackets, gloves etc

Please help. We are completely stuck.

Magazine subscription? Food/trip vouchers? Hamper?

trixymalixy · 29/11/2011 20:45

How about a gift experience? We bought my Dad a bird of prey experience day where he flew kestrels(i think) etc.

Or an oxfam gift?

Sanesometimes1 · 29/11/2011 20:45

Walking boots ?

Carrotsandcelery · 29/11/2011 20:46

All he has asked for is a golf magazine subscription which we are happy to get but we would like to get something else as well.

Walking boots might be a good idea - thank you.

I would love the bird of prey experience but although he is fit he is not confident physically and would be really stressed by it.

A gps and guide/intro to geocaching...
My dad, who sounds quite similar, is now obsessed after we did this!
My DH, DC and I often join him and have a wonderful time too...

Carrotsandcelery · 29/11/2011 20:57

Funny I suggested the idea of a GPS and Geocaching to my dbro last night when we debated this.

How about one of these as part of his present:

www.amazon.co.uk/GolfMission-Award-Winning-Golf--Course-Perfect/dp/B003OF7PWO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1322600172&sr=8-1

Got one for my brother who loves golf (sick of buying golf shop vouchers for him) & came across this. It's a bit different & seems quite good.

How about doing him a hamper with stuff he loves, maybe with the above present, some golf balls, walking themed books (pub walks maybe?), kindle voucher, smellies, chocs, beer?

Angelswings · 29/11/2011 21:03

Just god my dad a Tom Tom as he is losing his confidence at finding new places now he is 76

Carrotsandcelery · 29/11/2011 21:04

I like the hamper idea although he doesn't drink or eat chocs etc Shock

We could add in the subscription and the mission game and work from there maybe.

I love this man dearly. Why is it so hard to choose something lovely for him?

Ah! Now the Tom Tom is a good idea too. Dad is doing the same. He is suddenly happy for me or my dbro to drive having been "the driver" all his life.

A round of golf at a top golf course? We got my dad one at Gleneagles one year and got mum afternoon tea there. They both loved the experience. Can't remember how much it was though x

The rounds of golf are great ideas and something we do regularly but we are saving that for his birthday in June. He has a list of courses he wants to play so it makes his birthday easy and various family members tend to go with him for a jolly too. Grin
