Father Christmas or Santa Claus?

Just a bit of a straw poll really. Was always Father Christmas in our house (latterly 'FC' when my sister and I were getting a bit cool, didn't believe but didn't want to miss out on the extra presents either!) This would be 70s-80s if it has a bearing. But now it always seems to be Santa.

Your thoughts/experiences?

wigglesrock same here! ive never met anyone call him FC. its an old english term isnt it? im in scotland. we always say santa or santa claus.
I like the sound of fc though, rather posh. but couldnt say it, it would just feel wrong.
"wheesht, santas listening!" or
"wheest, father christmas is listening"

  • see what i mean? :o

Santa (another scot)

I live in England and struggle to even say Father Christmas as it just sounds so posh! My DC are very confused.

I used and love Father Christmas but my DP and my kids use Santa... Their daddy is a Celtic man, I never thought that might be the reason...

mrsmplus3 · 29/11/2011 22:09

totally is pancake. funny isnt it?

pooka · 29/11/2011 22:10

Definitely Father Christmas.

Santa - yuk. Makes me cross.

mrsmplus3 · 29/11/2011 22:13

what pooka? cross? why?

dearprudence · 29/11/2011 22:16

Father Christmas! Santa Claus sounds American to me. I had no idea that it was so prevalent in Scotland.

DS says Santa a lot and it doesn't hugely bother me but I do correct him.

wigglesrock · 29/11/2011 22:16

mrsmplus3 I've just asked husband and he knows no-one else that says Father Christmas either, in fact he just said "I always think its a very English phrase".

mrsmplus3 · 29/11/2011 22:19

thought so. doesnt bother me at all which term people use. you just use what you grew up with dont you. no biggy. chill pooka.

tarantula · 29/11/2011 22:25

onelittleclara · 29/11/2011 22:30

Father Christmas here. Santa Claus just feels wrong.

ChocChipMisteltoeAndWine · 29/11/2011 22:30

ujjayi · 30/11/2011 00:03

We say Father Christmas to avoid confusing DCs since Sinterklaas begins visiting us tomorrow night :)

HoldMeCloserTonyDanza · 30/11/2011 01:52

It's always Santa here in Ireland.

TaffyandTeenyTaffy · 30/11/2011 02:09

He is Sion Corn here in Wales....Just to confuse things!
