If you do a fabric/wooden advent calendar with gifts each day, what do you put in it?

Just sweets and chocolate, or other stuff? And can I be reeeeeally nosy and ask roughly how much you spend on filling it (if you don't mind saying)

I've always wanted to do this - we aren't this year but might do in the future, not got the time or money this year but I thought I'd ask so I know next time :)

ZIPZAP we got a cheapish playmobil advent calender off Amazon see link at £12.99

playmobl knights tournament calender £12.99 at Amazon

We have one with doors and we put a tree decoration in each one that they get to choose where it goes on a little wooden tree on the windowsill. Plus I usually end up stuffing a chocolate each in each door.

Ooh, loving the socks idea! Now that's workin' smart :o

I also just saw some other threads on here about activity advent calendars, so I might intersperse Stuff with little activities like 'today we will make reindeer food' or something.

God you lot must have big drawers. Our one has drawers so tiny it's a struggle to find anything small enough so it's jellybeans or smarties!

We put different activities in ours: putting up the tree, making gingerbread, reading the Xmas story, watching a film etc
These are all written on little cards and out in the pockets of our fabric advent calendar. They do get a bit more exciting once school has finished - this year is good as there is a whole week between the end of school and Christmas day, so activities include a walk in the forest and pebble-picking at the beach.
The girls are really looking forward to it already. They also get a chocolate coin or small chocolate ball each in the daily pocket.

Thanks antagony but I wanted to try to avoid getting one that wasn't very christmas-y; I want one that won't get subsumed into the general playmobil toys like last year did!

Won't hurt them not to have one this year, maybe will get a little Robin who lands in a different place each day and reports back to Santa on whether or not they have been good boys - encourage a bit of good behaviour before Xmas :o

I will be putting activities or Polly Pocket/Barbie accessories (bought from car boot sales mostly), filling them the night before as I go along so if it snows, for example I can adapt the activity.

I'm going to alternate tiny chocolate santas with xmas activities, e.g. write a letter to santa, make mince pies, start using a new xmas colouring book.

This is my first year of doing this and I'm excited!

On the 24th I will put in a letter from the elves which will tell the DCs about the arrival of a mysterious package around tea time..........the hamper!!

MrsMuddyPuddles · 29/11/2011 00:21

I was planning on just using ornaments for the tree (then finish decorating it the 24th) but after reading all this, maybe that's too mean? DD is 2.5 if that affects things...

The teenagers I work with have spent the last 3 weeks making their own and they have done a wonderful job!!
They have sweets, small toys, stars, pictures and IOU in theirs Grin

We have a wooden one with little drawers and put in a note with an activity for each day. Some days I put a chocolate button in if I haven't been organised enough to sort it all out before December.

Advent calendar here is only every Sunday (or Saturday depending on schedule etc. Weekend anyway.)
I have collected little craft things, decorations, nice bath things/soaps (cool ones from e.g. Lush), stickers, little ornaments, little books/stories etc. (and a few small but nice sweets/chocolates) over last few months (some from sales).
-Divided it all up between 4 x-massy gift-bags. Sealed with tape. One bag each weekend. HOURS of play, craft, fun etc.
For daily "counting down" we have one of those candles with numbers on.
