I'm going to buy a few Christmassy DVD's that we can watch in the run up to Christmas and would love some recommendations for family friendly films suitable for a 3 and a 5 year old as well as DH and I. TIA Smile

My older two are 5 and 3 and they enjoyed Home Alone this morning, although it took a little while for the 3yo to get hooked in!

They also enjoy Elf loads.

I tried to watch Home Alone with my two (6 and nearly 4) last night and immediately realised my mistake - they both have a weird fear of robbers at the moment. DS was terrified just looking at the box! I am dying to watch it with them as I loved it as a kid, but I think I am going to have to wait a couple more years yet.

They loved the Muppets Christmas Carol though, even if they do insist on calling Kermit 'Hermit' Hmm and DS found the ghosts a bit scary.

Elf is also a hit (though DS is scared of bits in that too - he worries that Buddy is going to get into trouble)

I would love some more ideas for totally non-scary Christmas films for my two scaredy-cats!

The Grinch
National Lampoons

thousandDenier · 26/11/2011 15:44

I adore A Charlie Brown Christmas. And Muppet Christmas Carol!

pigsinmud · 26/11/2011 15:51

Last year we all really enjoyed Nativity. Dcs between 4 and 12 - they all loved it. We also love The Polar Express.

Sparklingbrook · 26/11/2011 16:23

I know what you mean Tikkabilla. When you take all the funny bits out of Home Alone it's awful!

He's bullied by his brothers and sisters.

He gets abandoned by his parents

The burglars are prowling around the house in the dark, breaking in and tormenting a small child.

And so it goes on........ Shock

Tikkabillajive · 26/11/2011 17:28

It's a really creepy concept isn't it Sparkling! I hadn't realised it until I put it on yesterday. There's also the creepy old man who the kid thinks is a murderer Shock. Actually, thinking about it, I have no idea why I think of it as such a jolly, Christmassy film - it is all wrong!!

Sparklingbrook · 26/11/2011 18:17

At one point they hang Kevin on the back of the door! Shock

In Home Alone 2 he's basically comitting fraud with his father's credit card in a hotel too. All alone in New York!

moaninlisa · 26/11/2011 18:17

Polar Express

ujjayi · 26/11/2011 18:36

Nativity is an excellent and very funny film.

I also love It's a Wonderful Life. Meet Me In St Louis isn't strictly speaking a christmas movie but it is worth watching for Judy Garland's rendition of "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" (guaranteed to make me sob every time I hear it)

MrsMuddyPuddles · 26/11/2011 18:54

for you and DH: Die Hard :-D

IamMummyhearmeROAR · 26/11/2011 19:33
