I have been looking at these for my ds's aged 3.10 and 2.3. Are they as good as the reviews say they are?

Do your dc have helmets/pads etc or are the bundles a waste of money?

TIA Smile

The best present we have ever bought for ds. It is used all the time and mastered it very quickly. He has a helmet but no pads. tbh he hasn't fallen much. We got it last year when he was 2.4.

snala · 26/11/2011 02:33

Thanks , I think we will buy the scooters, just not sure about the hemet etc Confused

I received mine yesterday, it's fab.

Save some money and get it from Jojomamanbebe and use this code for 15% off. In total it cost me £45.05, bargain!

Code: MTF12

I am still going to get a helmet, but there are some better offers on Halfords at the moment. Friends told me pads are not necessary, I suppose a grazed knee is ok but not a broken head.

lettucesoup · 26/11/2011 07:56

u can buy them cheaper from a website....all legit takes 5days postage if in stock will get back to u with it

DS had mini micro for 3rd birthday and it is a really great scooter, it's now been passed down to DD.

We've always had helmets, but wouldn't bother with pads etc.

sunnyday123 · 26/11/2011 08:16

both dds have these scooters - one has the mini and one has the maxi - none have helmets Blush

although they are only a couple of inches off the floor so i don't see how they could fall onto their head as such - in the years they have had them they have never fallen off - more stepped off! Def dont need pads - h&s going too far with that i think!

WhoIsThatMaskedWoman · 26/11/2011 08:19

Yes they're great. Mine never had helmets or pads - they've fallen and grazed their knees quite badly a cou

WhoIsThatMaskedWoman · 26/11/2011 08:21

Oops...
....a couple of times, so knee pads might be useful for a learner, but I can't see how a child who's standing on a board two inches from the ground would manage to get a head injury - I've never heard of such a thing, and none of the local kids wear protection.

simpson · 26/11/2011 12:59

Mine have never had helmets either Blush and DD (3) falls over "thin air" and she has not come off her micro (yet)

They are the best things I have ever bought, well worth their weight in gold IMO and make the school run soooo much easier.

DD (3) has the mini and Ds (6) has the maxi

tassisssss · 26/11/2011 15:32

OP, you will not regret it!

(mine didn't generally wear pads etc, helmets somethings but that was it)

bunnyspoiler · 26/11/2011 18:54

DD's micro (the little one) hit a bump and tipped forward. She didn't let go and fell onto her forehead and it needed glue-ing. after then she wore a helmet but now she is older and has better control of it we don't bother.

StrictlySazz · 26/11/2011 18:57

My dd has gone forward, a bit like Bunny's DD. No harm done and she still doesn't wear a helmet but accidents do happen and they can end up on their heads.

DD1 has always had fantastic balance and didn't need a 3 wheeled one. DD2 is far more cautious and it has been fab for her. SO i would say they are great but your elder DC may be fine with a 2 wheeled one if they have good motor skills/co-ordination

MrsDobalina · 26/11/2011 19:02

Yes, definitely worth the money! Yes to a helmet - he goes super fast downhill (as fast as on his bike) and hasn't mastered the brake yet. Most people round here don't bother but head injuries are one of my paranoias.

lettucesoup · 26/11/2011 22:33

bikesterco.uk
not in stock at the mo
were £89 last time iI checked

Willowisp · 26/11/2011 23:18

My dd2 has a micro & loves it. she also wears a helmet, in fact both dd's do...much to Dd1's annoyance.

Like Bunnyspoiler found scooters can & do tip forward & whist the kids are only a couple of inches off the floor, they can reach some speed & as has happened with us, can collide with other children.

Wearing helmets stops me worrying too Grin

piprabbit · 26/11/2011 23:22

My DS wears a helmet and elbow and knee pads.
This is because not only is he a bit accident prone, but he also tends to pass out with shock and stop breathing/do scary eye-rolling etc.

snala · 27/11/2011 04:01

Thanks for all the links, tips, and the money off code. We will be buying them .Grin

Will also get helmets as we live uphill!! Wink
