Ideas for an Xmas buffet

I'm having my family round on Xmas day. I'm not cooking a meal as there isn't enough space for us all to sit down. So I thought I'd do a nice buffet instead. Any ideas? What's your favourite type of finger food?

I'm doing this, but am completely not a cook so you may have more refined taste!

2 joints of cold meat, beef and pork, pate, cheese and warm crusty bread with chutneys, apple sauce, muctard etc. Oh and a warm quiche, and choc log.

Luckily my in laws like stodge.

Sorry - just seen for xmas day so may not be appropriate

Hot or cold or a mix?

Def cold meats, nigellas ham in coke, beef, turkey. Salad, crusty bread, lovely salads, crusty bread, chutney, hard boiled eggs, beetroot, new potatoes,

If hot aswell, a proper steak chilli, cooked the day or 2 before for best taste, curry, jacket potatoes done in the oven, a beef casserole?

A salmon? (or bits thereof Grin) cook it in the dishwasher and tart it up on a fancy platter (poundshop et al have disposable silver ones cheap) for a centrepiece that looks like you've slaved over a hot stove for days and are vair posh with minimum effort Grin Or do Clarissa's two fat ladies stove top salmon in orange (I think recipe is googlable)

Should probably mention I cannot cook at all and will probably be buying pre made versions of things people suggest Blush

My xmas is coming from M&S and a bit of Waitrose. Have a look at their xmas food selections - fab!

Carrotsandcelery · 25/11/2011 22:08

Those calorie laden mozarella sticks with a cranberry dip would be on my wish list.

Do you want slap up meal foods or pick and nibble throughout the day sort of stuff?

I agree that if the budget can take it then M&S is the place to go.

BroomForMyChin · 25/11/2011 22:13

Pick throughout the day sort of stuff would be good. Was thinking I'd go to m and s for a few fancy bits and then to tesco for the rest.

I would go for vol aux vents, mini quiches, sausage rolls, mozarella sticks with dip, mini brie and cranberry sandwiches, mini turkey and cranberry sandwiches, potato wedges with dip, crudite with dip (eg carrot sticks, cucumber sticks, slices of pepper, slices of celery) cherry tomatoes, olives, the 70's classic hedgehog with cheese cubes, pineapple, grapes, etc.

Mince pies, Clootie dumpling if it is done in your neck of the woods, chocolate log, pavlova or mini filled meringues, satsumas etc.

Non of it is very healthy... Grin

Are you/do you know a Costco member? They do sandwich platters if you don't want to have to make heaps of sandwiches.

Carrotsandcelery · 25/11/2011 22:26

Oh and a cheese board with crackers.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 25/11/2011 22:27

A really good cheese board, grapes, celery, walnuts and lovely bread plus pickles - and some baby jacket potstoes with creme friache and chives. If you want something hot to pull out at some point, I'd go with the slow cooker chilli option.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 25/11/2011 22:28

fraiche - sorry am a bit cocktailed up. Hic.

Carrotsandcelery · 25/11/2011 22:29

I am hungry now Shock
