People always get me mulled wine sets and scented candles. I can't stand either and put them straight back into the present cupboard to be recycled. Dh always gets ties which he hates as he likes to choose his own.

I always get a particular type of chocolates from my mum- she thinks I love them but I hate them and now the lie is too deep for me to come clean! My colleagues like it though as I bring them in to work Smile

StealthPolarBear · 25/11/2011 21:09

lolli, do you know a teenage girl in 1988 - she would love that.
I always get hand cream, which is nice in itself but i have LOADS of the stuff. If I didn't get more between now and the day I die (hopefully in my 90s or 100s) I would still have soft, moisturised hands right until the end.

I also alays get G&B chocolate, really not keen but as someone else mentioned I can't say that now! I'm a cadbury's girl, cheap,c heerful and chocolatey

springboksaplenty · 25/11/2011 21:16

Ferraro ocher and baileys from my MIL. I am now very careful about what I say I like.

workshy · 25/11/2011 21:17

I always get a calendar off my MIL

and it's either cute kittens or watercolour scenes -one of those skinny ones with no room to write on

does she not realise they are much cheaper in January and I can choose a nice big one that I can actually make a note that it's brownies, cello lessons, pe kit day and the dentist all on the same day!

Awful toiletries, and chocolate with nuts in, bleurgh!

Besom · 25/11/2011 21:24

I've a good friend who always gets me fairly expensive bath stuff and she said to me "I know you like your bath stuff". But I don't because 9 times out of 10 I'm allergic to it! Don't feel I can say anything though.

RedBlanket · 25/11/2011 22:26

Perfume, I never wear it ever
Pyjamas, never wear them
Bath stuff, I hate baths and can't remember the last time I had one.

lollipoppet · 25/11/2011 22:29

If only stealth!

reckoner · 25/11/2011 22:40

M&S chocolates or Thorntons from MIL. They are vile.
Cookery books from SIL. Usually one recipe in a book I might possibly try.
I used to get a lot of bath stuff. We had no bath, only a shower. Or toiletries that would bring me out in a rash.
Next vouchers... I usually spend them on kids clothes.

PontyMython · 25/11/2011 22:57

My mum doesn't really 'know' me either. I got decorative scarves several years in a row - which wouldn't be so bad as they were nice (even though I never wear that type of thing) but they were always accompanied by the phrase if you don't like it I'll just keep it Hmm

It upsets me a bit TBH. It's not about Getting Stuff, I just would like my mum to bother thinking about what I like, y'know? My dad doesn't really get involved with presents but now and again he just randomly buys something like a book or CD (we share a love of classical music though we like different composers) and it is perfect.

Now at Xmas/birthday (also in December) mum just says choose/buy something and I'll pay - which I appreciate as I get something I can't justify buying for myself, but TBH I'd rather mum just gave it some consideration.

Sorry for the rant Blush

Tillyscoutsmum · 26/11/2011 08:02

PontyMython - I know exactly how you feel. I have a December birthday as well and my parents just don't seem to give much thought to what they get me. I'm not that fussy - there are lots of things that I like and use but seem to end up with stuff I'd never use (unless I ask for specific things which I don't really like doing because I do like a surprise Wink).

I love the "I know you like.....so and so" line and the best one is when I got given a gold crucifix by my dad and step mum because "I noticed you didn't have one". Yup, there's a very good reason for that Hmm
