Budget is about £70 but might go higher if it is something brilliant.

It can't be: camera, ds, ipod, sewing machine, kindle, ipod dock, cd player, Playmobil...

We are totally stumped.

She is swinging between a child and a mini teenager so still playing with Playmobil but also doing her hair constantly.

Her stocking is organised but we need the one bigger gift from us for under the tree.

She is into ponies, animals in general, art, gymnastics, craft...

I love the idea of tickets to a horse show of some kind.

A trip to London would be too pricey for us but we could look for a biggish even closer to home.

She is already a keen horse rider so gets lessons and helps out up at the stables at the weekend.

I am also off to investigate Pippa Funnell games.

Has anyone got udraw for the wii? Is it any good? I wondered if she might enjoy drawing on that or if it would quickly lose its appeal.

I am also intrigued by the ipig and have to find out what it is now. Confused

Thank you everyone for the great ideas. Mumsnet is fab!

Keep them coming please. Smile

Carrots, the British Open is in Birmingham, is that convinient?

Carrotsandcelery · 25/11/2011 20:45

Birmingham is still a long way away madhatter Sad We are in the NE of Scotland. It would need 2 overnights really, which even in a Travel Lodge, adds up.

I have been looking at the Scottish shows but the sites I have found so far don't sound hugely guest friendly. I think I will ask her riding instructor for advice about a local(ish) show that is audience friendly.

The only thing I can think of is that in summer there might be some eventing you could see?

TheMadHatter74 · 25/11/2011 20:50

Quite interested in this one myself!

Merrylegs · 25/11/2011 20:50

How about adopt an animal from the WWF?

They have a special offer on at the moment - if you adopt the polar bear you can get a year's subscription to their kids magazine at %25 off. It costs £4.50 a month I think, or a one off payment of around £40 (can't remember exactly.)

This is the website.

Carrotsandcelery · 25/11/2011 20:53

madhatter I could hug you. Infact ((((hugs)))) I think you may have just made a young girl and her horse mad mother very happy Grin

That one looks fab and only a couple of hours drive away. Thank you!

Tickets to a show?

Carrotsandcelery · 25/11/2011 21:03

Hmm Dh has put a spanner in the works (slightly) by suggesting that we give the show tickets for her Birthday rather than Christmas as she will have to wait so long to go to it. I sort of see his point but it is annoying. Gah!

You have still solved the inevitable Birthday problem though madhatter Grin

Carrotsandcelery · 25/11/2011 21:04

Infact, you may have solved mine too!

I have just noticed that kids under 12 go free!!

OP posts:
GnomeDePlume · 25/11/2011 21:06

Carrots I just wanted to offer total sympathy. My DD2 is soon to be 12 so we have Christmas then hard on its heels we have her birthday. To add to the problem DD2 is Baroness Tightwad so even cash wont tempt her.

Some thoughts:

  • make up and skin care lesson
  • theatre tickets - doesnt have to be West End! How about a 'behind the scenes' experience?

I love this thread, but may go bankrupt as a result, so please stop posting any further. :o

if your dd likes sparkly tattoos hamleys have at their tantrum bit a kit for £20 which my dd loves and all her friends older and younger ask to come to ours to get it done. they last 5 days and come off with baby oil.

Carrotsandcelery · 25/11/2011 21:14

Isla my bank account is emptying just reading it.

Gnome I did get her the Bobbi Brown beauty for teenagers bible thing but having browsed through it I felt I should keep it a couple of years as she is only allowed makeup on Halloween Shock

It might be a good buy for a 12 year old though here

herbie I looked at Pandoras for a long time today. You may be onto something. I would worry a bit about her wearing something so expensive though. She is lovely but a bit dippy Grin

At that age I was mad on colouring in a giant poster of the wizard of Oz.

This company does some nice ones:

This company too, although a bit more complicted and detailed.

LittleLucifer · 26/11/2011 12:57

There are other versions of Pandora that are cheaper but the same quality. My daughters have Link-it bracelets and charms but I've got a feeling they've gone bust.

A Pandora bracelet is quite a responsibility for a 10 year old.

I'll be back in a minute with a link.....

LittleLucifer · 26/11/2011 13:03

They have lots of different ranges. I think your daughter will need a 16.5cm bracelet.

girlywhirly · 26/11/2011 14:40

Have you looked at any of the horse charities for gift ideas? The Christmas magazine has loads of them listed.
The Gambia Horse and Donkey Trust
Redwings
The Brooke
SPANA
Mare and Foal Sanctuary
World Horse Welfare
Bransby Home of Rest for Horses
