I have a 9 year old boy and 5 year old girl. DD hasn't really got into board games other than Jolly Octopus and Pop up Pirate also she plays the Orchard Toys games but not often.

DS loves monopoly, downfall and connect four. Would love a game they could play together.

Oh and the one game they do play well together is Guess Who.

Really need some good ideas, does anyone have Shark Chase??

I'm looking for a game for DH,myself,DS 12yo and DD9.6 yo.

Cranium, Scattergories or Logo perhaps.

There are new versions of Monopoly ,might be fun. (my parents have a French version. My French is tres mal so we didn't get far Blush

Just say no to that Doggie Do Do game.

bumbums · 24/11/2011 20:46

Cluedo? Snakes and Ladders? Sorry?

twolittlemonkeys · 24/11/2011 20:52

My favourites at the moment are Cranium, The Big Taboo (hysterically funny) but possibly too 'old' for 5 year old - and Carcassone. My 5 yo DS1 loves Carcassone.

DarciesmumandBump2 · 24/11/2011 20:57

We have Cranium, Monopoly, Operation, Lego Creationary, Trivial Pursuit Disney & Trivial Pursuit War of the Wedges! Our DD is almost 7 and participates well Smile

EightToSixer · 24/11/2011 20:57

The pictionary where you get an electronic clue on the figure of a man to draw details on goes down well with my kids, the same age as yours.
I've bought them Lego creationary this year, like pictionary but you build the image from Lego instead of drawing it.

Piranha Panic is good

We've bought Dixit for our two (aged 5 and 7) - was recommended on another thread, has great reviews on Amazon.

How about a co-operative game? I quite fancy Forbidden Island for ours.
Loads here

joanofarchitrave · 24/11/2011 22:47

Othello? (Have to say my ds found it deathly dull, but I know families that love it).

joanofarchitrave · 24/11/2011 22:51

Is Carcassonne any good with two players? I'm thinking about it for Christmas but I have to be realistic about how many of my family will actually play board games - if it's dull for two, it's no good. {sorry for hijack]

Pancakeflipper · 24/11/2011 22:57

getting Junior Monopoly and Screwball Scramble.

Want Labyrinth and Coppit.

PomBearAtTheGatesOfDoom · 24/11/2011 23:54

Several Brainbox ones and about 4 from Orchard Games. And Bananagrams and Slug in a Jug word games.

twolittledarlings · 25/11/2011 01:15

I have soon to be dd8 and dd10. They love playing games together.

this xmas, I have got them

Pass the Bomb
Articulate for Kids
Wordsearch
Get it wrong to win - sounds fun

In the past, they really enjoyed brainmaster ( update version of Mastermind)
Pictureka
Gigglewiggle
Uno Extreme (also got one for my friends 4 kids and they love it, every the parents)
Jenga
Piranha Panic
Jolly Octopus

magpieC · 25/11/2011 04:40

Joan Yes Carcassonne works well as a 2 player game and once you've got the hang of the basics there are several expansion packs you can add in for variety.

PontyMython · 25/11/2011 07:34

Aaaaah board games :)

Santa has got Escape from Atlantis - a remake of a classic game that had gone out of print - for DH and I (after all we have been good this year too :o) and also phase 10 card game purely because it was cheap on eBay.

For the DCs (4 and 2) I've got some games from ELC and Orchard Toys. I stay away from those plasticy gadgety games like tooth fairy etc as IME they tend to be shite.

I am lusting after Dobble, Pentago and Laser Khet 2.0, but those will have to wait :( we recently got a gorgeous wall unit in a charity shop and it is full to bursting with games. Would happily squeeze more in though!

Taffeta · 25/11/2011 10:31

Ds 8 loves articulate for kids.

Matildathebrave · 25/11/2011 21:15

Thank you all! I have reserved Piranah Panic and Shark Chase.

Will keep checking for more replies

I'm getting Hungry Hungry Hippos for DD(4).

It's more because I always wanted it as a child than her ever showing the slightest interest in the game. I cannot wait to play. Blush

Pancakeflipper · 25/11/2011 22:44

My parents always said Hungry Hippos would be rubbish when I was little. So Santa never brought it.

Last year I asked my In-laws to buy for my DS1 cos' he'd been asking for it for a few years. I thought it was going to be a plastic disappointment. But it wasn't!
Cos' his little brother could also join in playing it and he gets over giddy. It's really funny cos my 2 kids are over competitive about this game.

Though the yellow hippo seems to have developed rheumatism - he's very very slow off the mark these days.

timetosmile · 25/11/2011 22:49

whack a mole...it will drive you insane if you are in the same room but they will love it. Pirhana panic and Guess Who also a hit with Dcs 10,8,4

Kellywestie · 25/11/2011 23:59

We have bought our DS who will be 10 by Christmas Cluedo and Pass the Bomb. We have got lots of games but Pass the Bomb looked good when we were looking and haven't played Cluedo for years and think he will like it.

Our DS still loves a game we have had for a few years now, and played with lots of children I used to look, after called 'Looping Louie'. It's a really fun game and all the children we have played it with have loved it - worth looking out for.

Matildathebrave · 27/11/2011 13:42

Oh yes we have Looping Louie, it's great!

Will check out 'pass the bomb'

Thanks

Favourites here are Pictureka, Pass the Bomb and Yes & No (have dds 12,10 and 7). Have got Quirkle for Christmas - any good? They also like card games and dominos and dd2 loves her 20Q.
