Hampers - Wicker Basket Rip Off

I thought I'd like to send a friend and her family a hamper. Although I thought I had a reasonable budget (£50), I've now done some looking and it turns out that is very entry level in the world of hampers. I'm feeling pretty stingy.

This friend has been amazing this year and had us on not-one-but-two incredible holidays. I'd really like her to open the door to the postman and get a big happy surprise. Is there anything I could send instead? Or does anyone know of a hamper-ish type present that feels good quality, is more than a packet of biscuits and a 1-person cake but won't put me over my budget?

Big thanks in advance

Can you not make your own hamper and have it delivered? Courier companies are surprisingly affordable & they collect from you.

I second making your own hamper - you could make up something lovely for that budget, and it would be more personal. You could include things you know they like, or things special to your region, things like that. You also aren't tied to only doing food - you can include DVDs, CDs, books or other small presents, a bit like a stocking for grown-ups.

Definitely do your own! I have a very hard to buy for Aunt, who is a real foodie. Last year I bought a selection of locally made treats from the farm shop and packaged it up with a 'posh' bottle of squash (She doesn't drink alcohol) in a wicker basket. She really loved it, and she's the type who'd tell you if she didn't. It cost a fraction of the ready made ones.

Thanks all. Which courier companies do you trust with your hampers?

I used Hermes, no idea if they are the cheapest though, might be worth weighing your hamper when you've done it and then comparing prices. Just package it well!
