Do small children and trees mix? Or is it a recipe for disaster?

Tree! If you haven't got room for a big one get this one from ikea! Look great in the flesh and a bargain!

Tree !

And the word "no" ! Smile

girlywhirly · 23/11/2011 16:25

Tree, unbreakable decorations, and teach that no means no.

stinkyfluffycat · 23/11/2011 16:27

We have a little one (living real one, in a pot) on top of the enormous bulky non - flatscreen TV out of reach.

I am slightly dreading having a tree this year as DS2 will be 1 in December and is a right meddler.
I don't remember DD or DS1 bothering with trees though. However they would have been 19 months and 16 months so maybe more understanding of "NOOOOO" than DS2 who just shakes his head and carries on until removed!

Oh I like the Ikea one. They don't have it in my local one though.Sad
The small real trees they sells round here look a bit rubbish usually.

Alternative ideas:

shineypenny · 23/11/2011 18:02

Tree - if baby's not mobile yet, they soon will be Grin

sunnyday123 · 23/11/2011 18:25

tree :)

i have had trees every year regardless of the age of my 2dds - they have to learn to follow house safety rules generally so wouldnt not get one just because of them! You prob wouldnt leave a baby child on their own in a room anyway so can keep an eye on them.

PregolaLola · 23/11/2011 18:35

ds is one on the 1st im dreading it because hes so flaming quick !

i know im to say no, but hes so small and so very sweet looking and.....oh im pants

ReshapeWhileDamp · 23/11/2011 18:59

Oh get a tree ffs! Grin My SIL came out with this one when her DD was a baby. I tried to convince her that a)babies love lights and shiny things, b)it is NOT HARD to baby-proof a tree - get a small one and stick it on a table, put a playpen round it, get one of those stupid half-trees from John Lewis and mount it on the wall, etc. Oh, and c), it is NOT CHRISTMAS without a tree. Grin

We have had trees in playpens since having DC. Last year was the first year for three that we had a Free Range tree, but DS1 was nearly 3 and DS2 was about 5 days old. Grin This year, it's back in the playpen, which incidentally is all I've ever used the thing for. For added safety, we stick a chest (could be a chair or small table) in the middle and put tree on that, thus making lower branches just out of reach of toddler yanks. Added benefit of being somewhere to put presents without running risk of DC opening them too early. DS1 is now old enough not to fiddle too much. DS2 is a right little bugger an adventurous little soul and will probably work out a way to climb in there. Hmm

Been there. Small tree, out of reach, for looking only. If that's not possible, would go along with some of the excellent suggestions here. Playpen idea good!

frumperina · 24/11/2011 09:56

Small tree out of reach it is, I think. If I got a normal size tree and a playpen around it we wouldn't fit in the room anymore. Its that small.Good idea though. Why oh why does my local IKEA not stock that tree?

Tree. Small house, two young children plus dogs. Last year it was bald by Christmas day, it has been knocked over so many times Grin but you couldn't not have one, surely?
