Very little this year.

We are going to Mum and Dad's for Christmas lunch, then to my sister's house for tea.
No leftovers for boxing day will be a bit of a pain though, so shall be getting in a ham to boil/roast for a nice family dinner. I shall miss my Christmas lunch leftovers sandwich the next day....although my sister is doing a cold meat and salad buffet apparently, then they disappear for the rest of the week to her hubby's family down South, so I think she is sending her leftovers my way this year. I'm not proud. ;)

We will probably end up with the normal weekly shop with very few extra treats (like cream to go with the homemade mince pies etc) thrown in.
We don't buy Chocolates as I get a fair few boxes from children in my class as well as from a few family friends who always visit us once a year and bring chocolates/biscuits with them.

mogs0 · 22/11/2011 22:01

I haven't set a budget so will be interested to know what others spend.

This year is the first year that I'm having my family for Christmas so should really start planning what I'll need. So far, I have bought cheeslets BlushGrin.

CherryMonster · 22/11/2011 22:04

£250!!! i normally feed between 10 and 12 people on christmas day, and then an open house party on boxing day. this does also include alcohol except the christmas dinner bubbly which i already have. a few family members put some towards it, mum has put in £47 in tesco stamps, and sister is putting in £40.

cjbartlett · 22/11/2011 22:07

we've got 6 of us

mil will bring xmas cake and sausage rolls for some reason....

we don't go mad, just ingredients for the meal, some cava, j2o's for kids, might go out for lunch on boxing day
don't do a starter

it depends how many days your on about? the xmas dinner most expensive thing is turkey- we get bernard matthews frozen to keep cost down

probably £70?

cjbartlett · 22/11/2011 22:08

ooh maybe you should all tell me what you buy, that's what I need to know!

belledechocchipcookie · 22/11/2011 22:11

How on Earth do you manage to spend £70?? Shock I've done an order with Ocado that I need to cut down, only every time I do that it gets bigger! Hmm

rhondajean · 22/11/2011 22:13

About £100 for Xmas dinner, £20 for cheese for evening, £10 on good quality bacon etc for breakfast, money for alcohol, £80 ish for Xmas eve dinner out, and more on special snacks and nibbles - in other words far too bleeding much.

2 adults 2 children and 2 extra adults for Xmas dinner.

Dee03 · 22/11/2011 22:15

There's me and 3dc and I just do a normal week shop (around £100) but I will add another £20-30 for treats and nice puddings etc..

charlieandlola · 22/11/2011 22:17

I have just ordered my meat and puddings from M&S - we will be 6 on Xmas Day, 10 on boxing day, and I have spent £120 on large turkey crown, ham on the bone, trifle, profiteroles and a side of salmon. Should keep us going till the 27th at least !

cjbartlett · 22/11/2011 22:17

£70 - £20 turkey, bag of spuds, carrots, sprouts, jar of carnberry sauce, chilled bread sauce, mil bringing crackers
plonk £5 - inlaws not big drinkers so just 1 bottle of wine
bought xmas pud - don't know how much
bought mince pies
bucks fizz pretty cheap. maybe some smoked salmon for tea as well

I'm just talking xmas dinner, breakfast will be stocking chocolate, tea will be cold turkey sandwiches

seriously what are you all buying?

cjbartlett · 22/11/2011 22:18

I guess it depends on what the xmas shopping budget is for? xmas day or also xmas eve & boxing day?

belledechocchipcookie · 22/11/2011 22:19

What about the pork pies, sausage rolls, cheeses, cakes, cream, veg, stuffing, sausages etc? Blush

OP posts:
belledechocchipcookie · 22/11/2011 22:20

I think mine would last until New Years Eve. I ordered slightly less last year and just needed to pop out for milk and bread (need to stick these on the list)

rhondajean · 22/11/2011 22:22

Xmas dinner - trukey crown, veg pack, and a pudding from M and S - pre order to collect Xmas eve - best part of £80. Then need to make cranberry sauce, bread sauce, chestnut soup, home made pate, pigs in blankets, etc. Little canapes for start of meal. Good coffee for the machine for end. Artisan type bread Grin After eights. Be lucky if £100 covers it :-S

Wine, bucks fizz, ameretto, baileys, gin for the gran, beer. Most of which we will still be finishing this time next year.

And the rest as above...Just be grateful I am not doing my full Nigella, it requires a remortgage, this is why most years we now have chinese takeaway.

cjbartlett · 22/11/2011 22:25

oh yes forgot pigs in blankets (bacon left over for next day), stuffing (out of a packet)

cream? for xmas pud?

cheese I'll give you Grin

I'm the only one who drinks a lot, I'm considering those little g&t cans hidden in my wardrobe, ha ha

cjbartlett · 22/11/2011 22:26

chestnut soup?

I don't make cranberry and bread sauce, wouldn'tknow how!

cjbartlett · 22/11/2011 22:26

pork pies & cakes?!! after the biggest meal of the year

belledechocchipcookie · 22/11/2011 22:28

Mine feels like a bloody Nigella. Hmm

OP posts:
belledechocchipcookie · 22/11/2011 22:31

The cake and pork pies are for Boxing Day. I plan on doing no food shopping until after the new year.

OP posts:
rhondajean · 22/11/2011 22:31

Cranberry and bread sauce are dead dead easy to make honest injun!!

No pork pies, yeauch, by boxing day Im usually feeling like a foie gras goose as it is.

Probably wont buy cream either, or at best a very small tub for GMIL.

Have realised we sound like a family of alcoholics - I actually just ove rbuy drastically in case of an alcohol shortage in Sainsbos over the festive season.

Each and every pigging year.

At least they can no longer do bulk discount deals in Scotland so I wont buy 3 cases of beer for £20 which will linger in the cupboard till next September.

Xmasbaby11 · 22/11/2011 22:35

I'd plan for a good 5 days as no intention of venturing to shops or restaurants anywhere near Xmas.

Never had a budget before but I know what I don't mind spending more on (good quality turkey, decent wine) and what I do (prepared rubbish).

cjbartlett · 22/11/2011 22:35

oh at my parents it's a different story - beer, gin, red & white, champers etc
it's just inlaws and dh who don't drink

randommoment · 22/11/2011 22:43

I'll be spending about £50 on a ridiculously large piece of a cow. And maybe a tenner on veg, sauces, frozen yorkies because mine always go wrong. I expect the rest of my tribe to bring mince pies, christmas pud, cream, and the dessert for the people who can't stand Christmas pudding, also the drinks. There'll be 10 adults and five children, although since one of them isn't weaned yet I don't think she'll count. There should be enough beef left over for sarnies until about the 28th.

belledechocchipcookie · 22/11/2011 22:47

I'm rethinking the bird as it'll be huge and we'll be eating it until next Christmas Grin
