A "present" fancy dress costume for a nursery play?

DD who is 15 months is in her nursery play as a "present". I've got no idea how to make a costume for her. I thought of wrapping her up in wrapping paper and tying her with a bow, but how would I hold up the wrapping paper?
Or anyone else have any ideas?

I love that idea, and I can see it working on an older child, but at 15 months I wonder whether she'd find it uncomfortable to wear? I think I need something less rigid.

Aahh yes fair point i missed her age. she will tear it open and trash it in secondsGrin

I would just put her in brightly coloured/sparkly tights and t shirt and clip a big parcel bow in her hair (or stick it to a hairband, whichever you think will stay put for longest!)

hmm...maybe then I could put her in red tights and a red top and put a bow on her head...or a bow round her waist? not sure she would keep a bow on her head as I've never put anytning on her head before. she even takes hats off!

Red tights and top and a bow sounds fab. Would she wear a bow round her waist? If she really won't wear the bow could you just draw a present onto a plain t shirt? I know it's not really a costume, but might be a good standby idea? If you did it on the reverse it might not soak through and then she could wear the t shirt again?

You could maybe stitch the ribbon around the red top and stitch the bow to the front? That way it won't be tied around her so wont be uncomfortable (or easy for her to remove!) I think it will look very cute!

I have a fancy dress costume book Blush which suggests a plain t-shirt with the "ribbon" drawn on with fabric paints (or felt pens) and a bow attached where the ribbons cross. i.e. big plus sign painted on front and back of t-shirt. Or you could tack on fabric to make the ribbon, which could be removed afterwards.
