When I was little Santa bought you a bike or somethind your parents gave you a stack of toys and games.

What's the current thought on present giving?

Everything from us is from Santa. All other presents, grannies, uncles etc are from them of course. This was the same in our houses as children. It never once bothered me that my mum and dad never got me a present, and by the time I was old enough to wonder why they never got me a present, I was old enough to start wondering about Santa......I then saw the effort they went to get me what I wanted, so carried on believing a lot longer!

Nice to see someone else the same bananamam.
My DC haven't questioned it, I think they tend to discuss what they got rather than who gave it.

Everything here is from Santa too, including the presents from Grannys, Uncles etc. Grown ups buy for each other but Santa brings presents to good boys and girls that believe in him. It's what happened in my house when I was growing up so we've taken the same approach.

It's never been questioned and 2 years ago DS1 really wanted a Nintendo Ds, when he got one on Christmas morning he said that now he knew Santa was real because Mummy and Daddy could not afford to buy him a DS Grin.

DS2 was writing his list recently and would like a baby sister (not sure even Santa can help with that one!).

We are the same bananmam and notso, there will be presents from Grannies, aunties etc and Santa brings everything else. This was how it was done in our house growing up, it never once crosssed my mind that parents would also buy us something as well so never thought about it. DD is only 3 so a bit young to get it all.

Father Christmas brings the stocking - nothing in it costs more than £3.

They get one present from each of their main relatives (parents, grandparents, siblings) and from less close relatives (cousins) they get a present from the family.

If santa brings all your presents, how do you write the thank you letters?

mrsmplus3 · 23/11/2011 21:07

we dont do thank you letters.

i mean, i do thank you letters after their christenings and our wedding but ive never done it for christmas?? and would never expect one.

surely if youre exchanging gifts and youre wishing merry christmas thats expressing your thanks? i mean, when does the thanking end?
i think thats ott to be honest. one women on a similar thread said she makes her kids pause after opening each gift so she can write down what they got and from whom - on christmas day morning?! - what a kill joy!

rant over, sorry.

and each to their own of course.

We don't do thank you letters at Christmas either - and I've never had one. In fact in 37 years I've NEVER seen a thank you letter for a Christmas present. I do try to keep track of who gives what to DC so that I can personally thank them though.
