Hi all, this christmas, i wanted i wanted to do something different with my kids and that is..charity but not just the donating money kind but the donating 'time' kind, whereby we buy gifts for those less fortunate or visit a childrens home with presents etc, and spend time reading stories or playing games.
My kids (9 and 3)are all up for it but i have no idea where to start and how to take it forward.. all ideas welcome,(i live in london for anyone who knows of someplace specific).

thanks

You could ask at your local community centre or library, they often have details of local schemes that need help. Various places often do Christmas lunches or teas for various groups, and they often need volunteers. Or contact details of your local women's refuge, if you wanted to send some gifts - things like food staples, nappies, toiletries, or basic clothing like socks/hats/gloves are often much appreciated by the families living in refuges. Things that get left behind when leaving a home, and that while not expensive in themselves are just outside a tight budget.

What a lovely idea. You could also ask at your local church, regardless of whether you go or not. Our school choir used to sing carols at the local old people's home.

Agree with Pom about the Woman's refuge. There is one near where we live that appeals for gifts for women/kids or treats like chocolates/shortbread for people that have to suddenly leave home over the festive season.
