Christmas Eve DVD

Every year in the Chasse household, on Christmas Eve there are two little parcels left on the hearth. One's a Christmas DVD and the other is a bag of popcorn, and we all watch it together.

This year, it's my turn to buy the DVD, so I'm looking for inspiration! What are your favourite Christmas films? (Age doesn't really matter, as the youngest is my DB who's 14, but we all enjoyed the Polar Express last year Smile)

My DC love Home Alone
We saw Nativity last Christmas Eve, they loved it.
Christmas Carol (jim carey one) DD was scared witless at cinema and I was surprised she sat through it. (the dorknocker did it)
Polar Express- love it

Not seen Muppets Christmas
Not that keen on White Christmas or It's a Wonderful Life.

Another vote for Muppets Christmas Carol. We watch it every year tho dd is not really that bothered yet, DH and I watch it!!

We always watch The Snowman together on xmas eve.

mrsmplus3 · 23/11/2011 20:52

whatever is on tv during the day - usually the snowman and santa claus the movie (dudley moore) - while im prepping all day in kitchen.

dont watch a dvd in the evening because we have dinner around 5 and then go to mass for 6. by the time we get back theres only time for bath, pjs, hot choc and "night before christmas" book.

we tend to watch christmas dvds most evenings in the week before.
got to be some home alone, polar express, fred claus, disneys christmas carol (jim carey) and most importantly for the grown ups - its a wonderful life.

have never seen nativity and hearing its great so def going to get it in december.

disguisedeb · 23/11/2011 21:10

got to be The Santa Clause

RhinestoneCowgirl · 23/11/2011 21:17

I absolutely love Its a Wonderful Life, and was feeling in need of something uplifting last weekend so watched it with DS (5yrs)

Bit of a mistake as it turned out as he got really upset - whole suicide attempt thing put a bit of a downer on things Blush. Had to skip to the end where everyone was singing Auld Lang Syne and the little girl does the (admittedly rather cringey) 'every time a bell rings' line.

I do love Elf too :)

mrsmplus3 · 23/11/2011 21:19

the suicide thing would do that to a 5yr old! hee hee

just watch again later in dec when hes in bed.

mrsmplus3 · 23/11/2011 21:19

my kids love elf too, a bit too silly for me though

posey · 23/11/2011 21:20

Another vote for Nativity. I love it over all others Smile

RhinestoneCowgirl · 23/11/2011 21:23

mrsmplus3 I know, what was I thinking... Mind you he was also scared of the seal in Pingu until fairly recently so I should have known better...

mrsmplus3 · 23/11/2011 21:25

lol

mrsmplus3 · 23/11/2011 21:27

ive learned my lesson with stuff like that. me and my now 14 yr old boy watched jaws a few years back and he left the room (scared).
what was I thinking?

applecrumbleandcream · 23/11/2011 21:29

We love:

Polar Express
Elf
Santa Claus the Movie
Miracle on 34th Street (new version)
Santa Paws
Jingle All the Way
National Lampoons Christmas Vacation
Home Alone
Deck the Halls

Must get Nativity - sounds great, would it keep a 5 year old enthralled?
