Anyone else been a victim of their own organised approach?

I bought DD a V-tech Twist camera about a month ago as they were reduced from £50 to £35 and was pleased with my saving .... only to find they have now dropped in price to £27. Similar thing happened with Playmobil for DS - I got a good price from an e-bay seller but would have saved even more had I waited for John Lewis' 20% off Playmobil last week.

DH did warn me that prices would probably drop further to encourage consumer spending - it irks me to acknowledge he was right!

Anyone else been caught out? Come and make me feel better share your pain!

Me too - I bought Playmobil for my gparents to give my ds. I hunted for a good price and the day after I bought it John Lewis started their 20% off Playmobil. Grr!

Yes! Was going to post a new topic about it! I seem to be spending all my time returning stuff that I bought a few weeks ago as I keep seeing it massively cheaper! It's driving me potty!

Yes bought DS lego in newly opened Toysrus in Basel with 20% offer on lego on the first day.

Then we crossed over in Germany and we would have saved 50 euros.

I want to take them back but dh won't let me.

Yep, I ordered all my family Xmas cards from moon pig, only to find a couple of weeks later they've now got a 50% deal off personalised Xmas cards. Am so annoyed I actually want to write and complain, even though I've not no grounds to complain really. Just very very annoying when getting very organised has actually cost me money :-(

Carrotsandcelery · 19/11/2011 09:25

I would write and complain. If you don't ask you don't get. It may be that they offer you something as compensation.

I have seen more and more pre-Christmas sales this year, which is quite unusual for this country (although common place in the USA, where everything seems to be reduced to half price by about 18th December). Must be a credit crunch thing.

Only with one thing. I wanted to get ds an interactive buzz and woody but dh said they were too expensive at £50. after a lot of moaning and whining I compromised and bought a cheaper version that came to £30 all together. Then I saw the interactive buzz and woody reduced to £37 so only £7 more than I paid for a much inferior product. So I did take them back and buy the better one Smile

I got stung by WHSmiths 20% off LEGO. When I got home I realised their LEGO prices are so inflated I paid more with the discount than I would have done elsewhere.

I think it's hard weighing up potential non-availability of a coveted toy versus potential near Christmas discount.

Oh, I thought by 'so organised' you did what I did a few years ago: buy the kids presents good and early, esp stocking fillers, secrete them in a couple of different places around the house- then locate a small forgotten suitcase of them in mid January....

Not so bad now they get fewer but more 'requested', considered presents instead of acres of 'cheap' tat!

ChooChooWowWow · 19/11/2011 15:53

I got dd the Asda dolls house when it was £35 and two sets of furniture for £12 each. Then they reduced them to £25 and £7.50.
I needed two Leap pad explorers I got he first at £79.99. Then last week I got the second reduced in Argos for £63.99 plus they gave me a £5 off voucher.

PROPERLUSH: I did that last year. This year I have a notebook and have written down absolutely everything I've bought to the tiniest thing. Its working so far but no doubt ill lose a bag of stuff in the bermuda triangle spare room.

LolaLadybird · 19/11/2011 17:21

So glad it's not just me. I suppose I could return the camera but there is the definite hassle factor of doing so. Although I noticed they've come down another £2 since I posted yesterday Angry!

On the up-side I did save about £25 from Toys-r-us last week when they had their 3 for 2 on Lego so I guess you win some, you lose some.

Proper - my friend has 'lost' presents in her house before now. I did something similar with a pair of ski gloves for DD last year. Bought them in plenty of time, put them 'somewhere safe' and then had to take the house apart on the first snowy day so that I could find them!

I do this every bloody year. Never fucking learn. Angry at myself.

I buy stuff early as I like to spread the cost and then miss really good offers. And I've lost count of all the stuff I've lost or forgotten about in the seemingly bottomless pit of christmas crap in the understairs cupboard. Found a way to deal to deal with that though. Moving house twice in 3 months towards end of the year. packing up and unpacking means I haven't lost track this year. Result!
