I'm having a second tree for the kitchen DP doesn't know yet Grin and was thinking of what to decorate with.

When we brought our house I got a few gingerbread tree ornaments which as the years have gone on have been banished from the front room as it's become red and gold and a bit more luxury looking. I do put these gingerbread things around the kitchen so I thought on my kitchen tree; real one by the way!!!! honestly don't tell DP I would do a gingerbread/cookie and candy cane theme and I was also thinking of getting small cookie cutters and hanging them with ribbon from the branches.

I then hit on the idea of orange slice decorations. Now, did I go to far? Should I stick to the original idea or turn it into a food tree and add the oranges or other things? (ideas needed!!)

Hmm not sure the two go together.

My sister has a food tree with dried fruit slices, cinnamon sticks wrapped with ribbon, star anise and chilli pepper lights.

My kitchen tree has heart, star and gingerbread people cookie cutters, mini wooden spoons with gingham ribbon, and a felt gingerbread man on the top.

Not so that sounds brilliant! I love the wooden spoons idea! Where did you get them from? Are they actually decorations or did u make them?

I've got a big wire bow with gingerbread men and candy canes for the top of the tree. Do you still think I should put the candy canes on?

Yes go for the candy canes, I might add some this year.

I used some child sized wooden spoons from Wilko or Dunelm Mill and also some very tiny craft type ones which were from a craft stall on my local market. I just tied a ginghan bow around them.

make popcorn garlands?

ExpectoPatronum · 18/11/2011 16:56

you can thread popcorn like ChippyMinton says, and / or dried cranberries.

I always do orange slices, gingerbread cookies in star shapes that are iced either tastefully (by me) or garishly (by the DCs), candy canes and chocolates.

Once, years ago, my aunt worked for an ad agency in Detroit. Their building was over about 10 floors, and every year they would do a tree-trimming competition, with a tree on each floor. One year, my aunt's floor decided to do 100% edible decorations, including baking a gingerbread man / woman for every employee on that floor, with their names iced on. A lot of work, but they did win!

Great thanks I'll check those shops out this week :)

Popcorn would look nice, and would cost hardly anything. Wonder if I'll have the paitence to string it lol!
