Advice for gift for nearly 6yo girl please

I'm seriously out of touch with the desires of young children :(

I need to get a gift for my DN around the £15 mark and I have no idea what's on the wish list for that age group. I've always managed to be the cool auntie that gets good stuff in the past but that's been more through luck than anything else. She's quite a girly girl but there's a tomboy not far under the surface so a gender non specific gift would be great.

What's on your lists for your DDs?

A drum kit. Her parents will hate you, but she will have a ball.

Or lots of art stuff - paints, paper, pens etc etc.

Theatre tokens, so she and a parent can go and see something wonderful together.

Books - she got the Harry Potter set for her 6th birthday, at the moment we are reading through Roald Dahl.
Lego - again, she got some for her birthday and getting more for Christmas.
She also got a Wii game (Mario Kart) for her birthday.
Magic tricks.
Joke books.
Lots of arty crafty stuff.
Meccano.
Am thinking of getting her a classic board game for her Christmas present, perhaps Monopoly (except I can't bear it and her sister is too young to play it with her...) or Boggle...

Anything with hello kitty on it.

Zoobles.

Rainbow Fairy books. (cracking big pile of 21 of them for £15 at Book People, they are £3 each in Tesco!)

Lolo ball?

Jins · 16/11/2011 19:39

There's some fantastic ideas here. I'm torn between the lolo ball and the drum kit Blush

what about a pogo stick - id go for lolo ball as i wouldnt thank you for a drum kit :) and my dd would get bored very quickly as most dont have the patience to learn properly at that age!!

Ja9 · 16/11/2011 20:40

also the paper jamz range.... drums, guitar, microphone might be worth a look...

reckoner · 16/11/2011 21:07

Bought my 7 year old niece a zubba (sp?) making sense from Amazon. It was the one thing she really wanted apparently.
