Hello wise and kind MNers,
This year my partner and I are totally skint as I have given up work to got to uni and my part time job pays the bills and the bills only, and although DP has been working hard this year when he can, work hasn't been as abundant as normal and he has had to face up to some buried debts. Thankfully we are spared the families descending on us this year so we don't have to feed everyone, just ourselves, however I am a bit worried about gifts. I have told everyone that we won't be buying gifts this year because we can't, but I would like to make a small gesture all the same. BUT there are some highly critical family members who tbh I am afraid will punish me for years if my offering is too Blue Peter! So far I have thought of homemade xmas decs (little felty beady things), ikea jars of homemade cookies / herb or chilli oil etc or bath salts. Does
that sound totally crap? Please can you help me with some ideas?

Thanks a million

I love getting handmade things, I think its a lovely idea. But I would only do the decorations if you are very crafty and they are going to be useable. Last year my huband got homemade fudge (loved it), I made candles and chutneys. This year I've made rasberry gin and jams. Can pretty them all up with nice bags/boxes and ribbons. Are you on Pinterest? There are some great ideas on there. There is a great bird seed thingy made in the shape of gingerbread men (hopefully getting the kids to make those for grandparents). Also have you seen thread on this section about handmade Christmas?

YAY! These are great tips thank you! I feel really encouraged. I will definately make some chutneys and maybe some piccalli too. I have been saving up all my jam jars this year (well some of the better looking ones) so I won't have to buy that many hopefully. Last year I made spiced pears and pickled onions but they weren't to everyones taste so I'll try again with sweeter things.
I haven't seen the handmade christmas thread yet so I will head over there now! Thanks! :)
