£50 each for DCs' Xmas from MIL - how to make it count??

MIL has kindly earmarked £50 for each of our DC this Xmas, which is very generous and a bit of a relief considering they'll be getting some buttons and a couple of mouldy satsumas in their stockings from us this year. Sad But I know we're lucky to have this 'dilemma'.

She's asked for ideas, and I really want to spend it wisely, probably on one big pressie each (though she'd probably prefer to get quite a few wee small things but I'm hoping to persuade her!)

She's very insistent that they have something to actually open on Christmas Day, so something like e.g. vouchers for classes wouldn't cut the mustard, unfortunately.

What would your DCs' dream pressie be for this amount? DS (6.5) is very into space, rockets, geography, flags, quizzes, DD (4.5) loves physical stuff like gymnastics, also drawing and painting and DS (1.5) is too young to have that amount spent on him for goodness' sake and quite happy to play with his siblings' discarded and broken toys from 5 years ago, but MIL v adamant that they all have the same amount spent on them!

Any fab ideas gratefully received!

My DS is also 6 and, amongst other things, is getting a Vectron wave which was the one thing he didn't get last year but still wants. Argos sell them for £20 at the moment. www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/3883987/Trail/searchtext%3EAIR+HOGS.htm

My DD is nearly 5 and also very arty so I am filling a big bag with lots of craft materials and a Bendaroo set which I got in Quality Save/ Home Bargains for £3 when they are normally £13. Has your DD got a scooter? Lots of my DD's friends are getting new ones for Christmas.

What about some Mega Bloks for your youngest DS? Or Sticklebricks? My two still play with them even though they've had them for years!

How are you off for bikes and wheely toys and things - might DS2 like/use a wheelybug (my DC played with ours until they were older than your DS1)

Does DD need any gymnastics kit? Could MIL be talked into that, plus assorted art stuff to "bulk" it out?

DS1 - a telescope? Or a big wall map, maybe?

Ooh, I love the telescope and proper gym clothes ideas, stealth, keep them coming! Grin
