Hi all.

My 1yo DS and I are visiting two different friends on Christmas day. They each have their parents, grandparents and various aunts and cousins there too.

I wanted to bring gifts, but the thought of buying individual gifts for lots of people I don't know fills me with dread. And seems unnecessary?

What do you think to bringing something for the general celebrations instead? I was thinking along the lines of wine, chocolate or prehaps a board game.

The only issue I have is that both friends are fab hosts and therefore will probably have far too much wine and food already and so I'm not sure how useful that sort of thing will actually be.

I really want to show how grateful I am for their kindness. Has anyone else got any ideas? Many thanks.

how about flowers or a plant - say a poinsetta for the host as a thankyou, and maybe a box of biscuits/chocs/wine which could be eaten/drunk over Christmas, but would keep if not needed?

Buy one of those enormous tins of posh biscuits from M&S or somewhere nice. There are some lovely Belgian chocolate M & S ones that cost about £14 in a big tin. Or you can get nice cheese biscuit selections from The Real Cheese Company. They don't need to eat these on the day but they'll be good for the days after.

Always worth wrapping something small for the children though - Lindt chocolate santa?

Could you make a boxing day hamper? With things like the biscuits/crackers Lemon suggested, some chutneys etc for the cold meats, nuts dried fruit etc, and a board game for the children?
