Is it possible to get a decent enough digital camera for teenage dd for around 50 pounds?

I know nothing, so please speak slowly!

Thank you. :)

That looks good, especially as there is a memory card deal with it.

If you see anything else, give me a shout and thanks again for your help, which has been brilliant. :)

You're welcome, I've had a little scout around and that does look the best deal, if I spot anything I'll let you know :)

BeeBread · 16/11/2011 22:57

Canon A495 down from £120 to £50. Seems ridiculously good value and you can get 6% cashback from Quidco too.

KickArseQueen · 16/11/2011 23:01

AA batteries tho..

BeeBread · 16/11/2011 23:06

Ah, good point. Ignore, OP.

VodkaKnockers · 17/11/2011 00:03

DS1 has this one.

Pretty good. has a flip out screen for self-portraits.

Doesnt come with a memory card but this is the one we use. Think it has a capacity for over 1500 pictures

PigletJohn · 17/11/2011 00:12

that Vivitar has 3 x AAA batts

I got DP a nice Samsung for Christmas, it's better, thinner and more modern than my Fuji. I was embarrassed to find that the batteries went low quite soon, and it took some seconds to recharge the flash (it had 2 x NiMH high capacity AAs which we had expected would be fine.

You can get Lithium AAs that "Which" says are very good for cameras, but they are rechargable and are quite expensive. I'm surprised I haven't seen Li-on rechargable AAs yet.

PigletJohn · 17/11/2011 00:13

Lithium AAs are NOT rechargable, sorry.

PrettyPirate · 17/11/2011 09:48

Is this one any good for you? Or this one? I have same budget as you and looking for one for my MIL, thinking of getting one of them..

PigletJohn · 17/11/2011 10:25

they both look good to me and have the rechargable battery. They both have good brand names if that means anything.

I have a (different) Fuji with a metal body and it makes me think it is less likely to crack if dropped, than a plastic one. Always use the wrist strap to reduce risk of dropping though.

Annoyingly they both seem to charge extra for the card and case. You might find better deals on cards at Tesco though.

PigletJohn · 17/11/2011 10:34

Olympus D-700 £50

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/11/2011 21:31

Wow -so many more answers!

Thanks everybody and I am now completely spoilt for choice. I'm now thinking either the Canon one that KAQueen linked to, or the Kodak easythingie one.

Random review for the easyshare above here

Argos review for the canon here

LOL!! I know which one I would go for! :)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/11/2011 16:04

So I've been to three different branches of Argos and the Canonone is out of stock; also out of stock online - so I've revivied this thread in the hope of more suggestions please.

I've been to Boots, Currys and House of Fraser today and they all had cameras for around 60 pounds but I've no idea if any of them were any good or not! Please help again, oh clever people.

I recently bought used cameras for both my kids. I paid $50 for one at a pawn shop (dd age 9) and $40 for the other on US website like gumtree (ds age 11). They were good quality cameras (7 and 9 megapixels) with removable sd card and rechargeable battery. The cameras would have cost between $100 and $200 new.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/11/2011 16:21

Thanks Sofia. I just want to buy a fairly basic new one tbh, so I know who/where to go and shout at if it goes wrong!

Hiya, im on my v basic phone, but ill have a look for you in a bit :)

JayneyMack · 27/11/2011 21:50

Hi Remus,
I have been having this same dilemma but for my 9yr old dd.
I have wasted hour upon hour trying to get my head round all the features and offers out "there".

I have finally given in and just spoken to my techno geek brother and very expensive camera owner and he reckons that this is a good value for money camera for this age group.

Only on this offer till Monday night.

Hope that helps.

JM

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/11/2011 21:57

ooh yes: i saw that one earlier and thought it looked good. Thank you. Hopefully KickArse will be able to tell us more!

OP posts:
JayneyMack · 27/11/2011 22:15

Maybe not. Well, not at that price anyway.
It would appear Currys have none in stock. Anywhere in the country.
Have looked on Amazon, ebay, but £89. Sad
Still hunting.

He also rated <a class="break-all" href="http://www.jessops.com/online.store/products/77046/show.html?tduid=d4619ae9a39bb4129ca77e5a7ce4349c&url=www.jessops.com/online.store/products/77046/show.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this one but the downside is, it uses AA batteries, and I don't want to go down that route.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/11/2011 22:16

We saw a couple with AA batteries today but dd has a three year old Canon one that eats batteries as soon as look at them.

REMUS!!!!!!! Really hope you notice this message! Have a look at this one again, It's just come back into stock in my local store! It's still looking like the best camera for the money! hth!! :)

KickArseQueen · 02/12/2011 01:36

It's also here but slightly more money!!

MuddlingThroughItAll · 02/12/2011 23:00

Just saw an advert on tv for curry's/comet/pc world which had a canon digital camera half price at 59.99 or abouts.
