What on earth do I get for a young 11 year old dd?

By young I mean not precocious. She's not into boys, make up, perfume etc. Her list is an itunes voucher, a sewing kit and a second hand play station (bless her heart!). We're not hard up, she's just not that greedy tbh!

She loves her ipod touch, drawing (but has tonnes of paper and stationery), making things (but has loads of unopened craft sets) and fashion.
Any ideas?

I'm in a similar dilemma with my dd, am thinking of getting her a sewing machine.

CeliaFate · 09/11/2011 13:28

Yes! I'd thought of that too but her nan is getting that for her. Poundstretcher were doing them for £50, or there's a funky red one from John Lewis.

Are many 11 year old girls into boys, make up and perfume? Shock. My nearly 11 year olds aren't thankfully, they want a new scooter for xmas, lego or money to put towards a new phone.

WinterIsComing · 09/11/2011 13:40

I've put a link on another thread to this ATM machine which looks quite fun.

My DD is a wibbly young eleven so hopefully it'll be enjoyed for "toy value" as well as having some practical use. Your DD sounds absolutely lovely by the way Smile

mumeeee · 09/11/2011 13:41

None of my DD's were into boys, make up or perfume at 11. They still loved cuddly toys and board games. But they did also like music and DVDs.

emkana · 09/11/2011 13:42

Sandy balls, what scooter did you get?

HappyAsEyeAm · 09/11/2011 13:43

I replied on the thread for suggestions for a 9 yo girl. Maybe some of those will apply to you OP? A sewing machine sounds a brilliant idea.

WinterIsComing · 09/11/2011 13:44

If our eleven year olds were into boys, what on earth would we buy and wrap I wonder? Grin

CeliaFate · 09/11/2011 13:53

The mind boggles doesn't it?! One of dd's friends, since starting comp, has dyed her hair bright red, wears make up to school every day and in an I.T. lesson where they're allowed to listen to music introduced dd to the delights of "S+M" by Rihanna! Shock That's what I meant really, dd seems so much younger than her peers who post duck pout photos on Facebook and "like" pages such as "You're hot. Get into my bed". Confused

My 11 yr old likes: Stuff for her room - cushions, duvet, pictures, notice board. Books. Body Shop type smellies (not make-up). Really nice watercolours/coloured pencils eg Caran D'Ache. Rollderblades. Gear for any sports she is into. Accessorise type stuff - bags, scarves, gloves etc. Paperchase stuff. Cath Kidston stuff. Cooking/cake making stuff - cookbooks, cakes cases etc

CeliaFate · 09/11/2011 13:55

lucysmum She sounds just like my dd, who also now I remember loves kitsch vw campervan stuff. Thanks all, some great suggestions here.

Sigh I wish my 11yo wasn't into boys and make-up(I blame dancing for this). Not too bothered about perfume I think this is inherited from me as I love it too.
Mine has asked for the knee high converse if they will fit her skinny legs,
A swatch watch,
Heelies she still loves them!
ticketmaster vouchers,
anything to do with The Wanted Hmm,
posh shampoo and conditioner,
funky pens,
a charm for her bracelet,
Gwen Steffani perfume,
chocolate,
best of british logo game,
Sapphire Battersea,
running spikes and new running gear,

A lot of 11 year old girls I know are still into things like Sylvanians. Am a bit Shock at all the make-up, boys etc that some 11 year olds are into. Maybe I'm a bit old-fashioned........

lucysmum · 09/11/2011 14:16

at school my DD tries hard to be 'cool' - but it is a pretty strict all girls school so nothing too excessive thank goodness. At home she still plays with her little sisters so gets out the Sylvanians etc when she is in the mood, or pretends to be a teenager and reads and listens to music in her room. She is very young for her year and has no older siblings so does struggle sometimes with how grown up and streetwise some of her classmates are.

my 11 year old isnt into boys and perfume either, unless the boy is a gelding and the perfume is horse muck!

We are possibly getting a pony so she will be getting a bale of hay and some worming tablets for xmas Grin

a camera? a funky hoodie with her name on (seems popular at dd1s school)?

TheOriginalNutcracker · 09/11/2011 14:22

My dd is 11, but 12 on 12/12. She can't quite decide wether she wants to be grown up or not, so she has asked for...

Blackberry
Itouch or DSI
Heelys
Moshi monster talking thingy
Monshi monster duvet
Moshi monster ds game
Make up
Straightners
Craft stuff

This is for both b'day and xmas btw.

SquishyCinnamonSwirls · 09/11/2011 14:32

We're getting dd a tablet pc for Christmas as she's been trying to pinch my e-reader for ages. Then some smellies (jelly belly beans do body spray stuff and nail varnishes etc that she likes), hello kitty things, moshi monsters, some craft stuff as she's nearly completed most projects, and a board game or two, then she'll have a new hoodie in the sales too.

My mil called today as she's doing her xmas shopping to ask if I thought a sewing machine would be a good idea. I think it's a great plan as I'm happy to help out with crafting projects.

groovejet · 09/11/2011 20:08

What about a Harumika set if she is into crafts and fashion.

Also if you check on amazon for Fashion Angels and and paper fashion Klutz are fashion based craft and sketch books both with good reviews from parents with similar aged children to your dd. Hope these links will work :)
www.amazon.co.uk/Paper-Fashions-Klutz-Editors/dp/1570545340/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1320869001&sr=1-3

My dd is younger, but has decided she wants to be a fashion design slash teacher so have been looking tonight for suitable things and they seem fine for an 11 year old to me.

WhoremoaneeGrainger · 09/11/2011 23:49

Have bought the fashion angels things for my DD who is 10 on Sunday. Also some fake ugg/swede boots, ipod docking station, new phone (she goes to dancing/drama and occasionally they chuck out early), smellies, hair bits, ds game, board game - Twisted Scrabble - Dh and i thought it looked fun!

WinterIsComing · 10/11/2011 00:18

My DD loves the Fashion Angels / Klutz stuff. Harumika is a bit overpriced I think but if you have a creative child they'll use the mannequins long after the pre-made stuff has run out and will be constantly on at you to supply old clothes to be cut up

One year I went out and bought various bits of braid, sequin strings, ribbons etc from the haberdashers and put them in as stocking presents. She was delighted and they were relatively cheap so maybe some lovely trimmings to go with the sewing machine?

Earlybird · 10/11/2011 12:13

I'm impressed that so many of you are so far along with your shopping! I've some vague ideas for dd (helped out by some ideas here), and have picked up a few things along the way, but haven't officially begun shopping for her yet.

I guess Christmas is much closer than I realise...

zest01 · 10/11/2011 22:40

We have gone for sewing machine and related accs for DD 11. That's the main gift then stocking fillers are jewellery, jigsaw, make up, slipper socks, craft stuff......will prob also get a few fashion items of clothing (rather than every day stuff iyswim?) and some bath/shower bits. Am also looking for a hairstyle book/guide as she wants new ideas for putting her long hair up
